I feel a little foolish tbh. I clocked the fact very early on that the cab takes forever to warm up - but was fobbed off with 'LR are like that!'.....

Can't tell you how many brass trips I've had in the thing :(

Well, I have the exhaust port so I've ordered a new temp sensor and I'm seeing if I can crank the thing up.

This forum is excellent - learnt so much so quickly - shame I didn't get on board sooner.

I love mine, although it does choose its moments for the smoke.

Infront of friends, or in a main street and boy can it smoke!

Hi,

I cut the two wires on the outside temperature sensor and attached (with an extended double wire) an on/off switch instead. Now I can select whether to have the fbh do its job as normal when I put the switch ON or when I leave it OFF the fbh does not enter into operation, the car seems to think the temperature is above 5°C as the sensor does not give contact. After I did that I thought one might as well just cut one of the two wires of the sensor and put such a switch in-between, that way the whole thing works as normal if you put the switch ON (the sensor will give the normal contact when cold enough) and will not start when the switch is OFF. Below shows the two wires I cut but just cutting one and put a switch on that wire will do I think.

That wasnt the worry, or concern. The fact the hand brake wasnt holding and the car was slowly inching down the hill to the white Porsche 911 GT2. Was the concern. lol
 
Hi all I have just bought a Freelander 05 2 days ago was a bit chilly this morning wife went to work and called in a panic that it is on fire. She got the garage to pick it up I am now after reading this site assuming that it has a fuel burning heater.

Situation normal - I'm afraid - it's not just wives that react like that. :(

Quick question I have something on the dash like a timer any ideas?? guy in the garage seemed to think it was something to do with the fuel burning heater?

You lucky, lucky man - if it says Webasto on it, has a clock display, and has 4 buttons marked with a flame, back-arrow, set, and a forward arrow, at the bottom, then you have the optional timer to operate the fuel-burning heater just like your home central heating.

Nothing about that in the owner's manual I think though, as the instructions for the heater timer came separately. I can help with that too, if you can't find instructions on-line. It's a standard Webasto unit the same as is fitted to HGVs as a night heater.

Mine is set to come on at 07.30 every morning so that when I step out of the house at 08.00 to go to work, it has heated the water in the radiator and block, also the windows are clear/de-frosted, and the cabin is warm as it turns on the heater fan too. A wonderful device.

If you press the flame button the fbh heater will run for the max of 30 minutes, or until you press it again. The noise and a bit of smoke scare a lot of people - don't leave it running when you go to Tesco's as you may well hear your Reg No with the message your car is on fire in the car-park - ha ha

Anyway if you want an owner's manual go to:

Register for free and you will be able to access handbooks for every LandRover ever made (or so they say) certainly there is masses of info if you enter the VIN number of your vehicle. Even the day it was made, first registered, recalls etc.

Other info is available if you pay for it like service charts etc.

I do suggest that you invest in a Haynes Manual for your motor as they are quite adequate for most folks to fix things.

Been looking forward to frost in the mornings so as to see if my fhb works now I've pulled & replaced the fuse!!
Was pleased to see the frost this morning but...no luck!! Still didn't come on so it looks like it might mean a new sensor & the removal of the front bumper! :(

It is a freelander sport premium have fancied a freelander for a while but been hard to find one I was happy with.
Had a problem with the radio not going on when it came back from the garage but working now and a headlight has just blown good start to my land rover adventure!!

:eek: That timer that you were going to throw away was a £225 dealer-fitted option along with the exhaust-silencer for the fbh!!!.

There was also a £240 remote control to switch the fbh on when you looked out of the window of a morning and saw a bit of frost on the windscreen.

I don't have one of them - maybe you'll find one in the centre consule you lucky dude.

You very rarely see them on eBay, but it's on my saved searches list.

Call me stupid but doesn't look like it should be there looks like a boiler control panel!! I will have to go look for the remote will let you know if I find it fingers crossed

If you find the remote control - I'll give you a £5 for it - it's a useless piece of kit which has no use 'cough'. He he.
 
No remote sorry I did look unless it pops up somewhere unexpected.
I pushed the flame button this morning and heard a lot of clicking from drivers side rear door I am assuming this is some sort of fuel pump?
did not clear the windscreen or heat the inside of the car is there something I am missing to do?
Have heated windscreen that works!! woo hoo had one before in a mondeo but because of a chip only half worked

Hi there,

Hard luck - no remote. :(

Yes, there is a small dedicated fuel pump under the rear wheel arch on drivers side above the main fuel pump and filter - that makes the ticking noise.

If you set the timer, or turn on the fbh by pressing the flame button, the fbh will run for approx 30 minutes then shut down. It will always heat and circulate the water in the engine block and radiator.

It will only do what you have the heater settings at - so the temp needs to be set and the fan needs to be at least at speed 1. If you also select the re-circ it will be more efficient.

Set all the heater controls BEFORE you press the flame button.

There are three on times that can be programmed, but I suggest leaving that for the moment. Have you got the clock at the right time - not that that will make any difference to the flame button.

During the week I have the timer set for a 07.30 start, but at the weekend I don't have any regular time I go anywhere. My procedure is this -if you care to try it.

I leave the car at night with the temp control set to max, re-circ button on, the distribution control set to windscreen & feet, and the fan speed set to No 1.

When I open the door in the morning, I just press the flame button and walk away - no need for keys, or turn on ignition. After a few moments the fbh will fire up, the pump will tick, and the fan will run - bingo.

Twenty minutes or so later the engine coolant is warm/hot, the screen is clear, and the cabin is warm, ready to drive away.

Hope it all works as it should.

Thanks for the info, I will try that tomorrow if it is cold enough was bloody cold this morning but the heater controls were not set right. I will have to play around with the timer, but it did start up when I pushed the flame button.
Because I did not set the heater that will explain why it was freezing but took no time at all to warm up. Loving heated seats never had them before small things amuse small minds lol!
