Hi Just joined your forum and need a bit of advice Please.
I have searched high and low trying to find the answer without any luck so decided to ask on here.
I have had a 2001 freelander TD4 for nearly a year now and apart from the turbo pipe splitting not had too many problems, until recently when i started to notice something which is sending me potty.
Its quite difficult to explain but i will try my best.
When i first start driving everything is fine but after about 10 mins the problems start, whilst driving along if i take my foot of the accelerator to slow down, the car appears to stop to quickly as if the brakes are on, then when i put my foot back on the pedal it feels like its holding back as if i have a caravan on the back or im towing something heavy.
Most people i have asked have said it sounds like the brakes are rubbing which makes sense but the problem is, if i take the car out of gear is rolls to a stop on its own without the holding back feeling.
Im getting quite worried now as i cant afford a massive repair bill at the moment, anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

I am going to say the 2 word no Gaylander owner wants to hear "VCU" and "IRD" google those words and hang yer head...

Thanks for your replies guys I really dont like the sound of those comments, just had a quick look on google and dont look good, if that was the problem what sort of money are we talking?

regardless of weather the car is in gear or not the VCU and IRD are driven by the wheels when the car is in motion. clutch only seperates engine from gearbox. i'm not an expert but this would suggest the problem is elsewhere??
is this theory wrong?

Fair point, I know what you're saying but I would still get the all clear on the drive train first as it's the most expensive potentially & could be saveable if the VCU is just starting to go but you right it's worth considering all possibilities.
