I finally worked out the problem and it's fixed. Basically, there is a one-way-valve in the fuel-tank's neck, where the filler-pipe connects onto. This valve was broken and restricting the flow of fuel from the pump.
Removing the valve fixed it.

Have you checked the non return valve near the tank?
They fall apart and restrict the opening.
What you say it quite true, Flossie, and thanks for that info. I located the problem just before reading your message, and can state that is exactly what the problem was.
Anyway, it's fixed and I'm over-the-moon, so to speak.
 
So it was an obscure problem nobody had seen before. Don’t you just love the chase lol Glad you got it fixed.
Just after I finished the job in-hand, plus testing it by refueling it, I recieved another suggestion from a Landyzone member. He suggested looking at the valve as it was known to him to be a problem.
I would have found the problem quite some time ago, but my fuel tank was almost full, hence I needed to wait until the tank was less than half full.
Anyway, that was the problem and something tells me there may well be others with the same fault.
I'll be keeping my eyes open to help them, if I can.

My 2013 HSE has recently started this problem, it was fine until a few weeks ago, now its a pain in the ass to fill up so I am glad there is a fix.
Is this something I can do or should I take it to my Landrover dealer?

Update!
After calling my LR Main Dealer, they tell me it is a fail-safe device to prevent the wrong fuel being put in the tank. If a smaller nozzle like say a petrol nozzle is inserted into the neck of the filler, it drops down a flap which stops the pump working by making the pump trigger cut out, now I did use a petrol can to put some diesel in my tank recently, so this is clearly what has happened, apparently there is a tool in the tool kit to reset this device and I am just going to see if I can find it now!

I believe this thread was about the Freelander 1, which is a completely different vehicle to the FL2. ;)

Not heard about this, there's definitely no special tool in my tool kit.

Can you post a picture of this special tool?, as it might be a later addition to the vehicle, which my 2009 MY FL2 doesn't have.

I have the "Can't-fill/Won't-fill" issue too on my 2000 P38 4.6. :(
No amount of jiggery-pokery positioning ensures a rapid fill-up, it just keeps cutting out.
The reason is (I am told) that the air displacement line and the evap cannister might be blocked and so the incoming fuel "boils-back" just like a "Brim-fill" and triggers the pump safety cut-off.
If I fill it at a trickle (about as fast as I pee at 3 in the morning when my bladder wakes me up....takes forever) it eventually get filled. :(
 
We have one of those tools for our L322.

If you look down the filler neck you can just see a coloured flap.
A match may help for light to see it. :eek:.

My yellow 'special tool' is in a clip at the side of the spare wheel, you just slide it in and it clicks the yellow tab back to wherever it came from and hey presto, I filled up today in a few minutes, it was bliss, well, apart from paying for it...

Thankfully mine is to old to have such a device in the filler neck. :)
 
Got a yellow release tool on mine.
Sadly I can confirm yer can fill a diesel FL2 with petrol if yer try. :(
