Injector went at 54,000 cost over £300 from main dealer to sort (learn't my lesson since then, use a small garage or DIY)
Funny whine from rear diff at 65 MPH, put some new oil in and molislip, not as bad now but I know it will be expensive at some stage.
I know things go wrong and we all like to have a go, but compared to the Alfa Romeos (£3000 in repairs in three months once) we used to have, our TD4 is like a dream and we don't hold our breath everytime we start it waiting for something to go wrong:eek:

Had our lovely XDI, L series since new, not had a problem with the engine or components at all. now 9 years old and still chugging away :) the most reliable freelander ever :) :D

If ur going to buy a freelander buy the Good Old L series Diesel Type :)

Agreed, bombproof engine.

I can't complain about the TD4 really. A nippy engine with the synergy 2 added.
never let me down in the year I have had it. A lot of messing with it and tinkering but still going strong.

Apart from that its A1?

Drivers window mechanism about 3 month ago and rear o/s door hinge about 2 month ago, its on a 52 plate, not sorted either prob as its the wifes car:behindsofa:

Ive owned my freelander for 2 years( 05 TD4 XEI) done nothing to it except oil and filter changes ,its just gone through its second MOT with no problems.
I just thought someone should say something positive about freelanders for a change. :)

All freelanders should be burnt, crushed and never ever be seen on the road again, as well as anything else with a k series engine. lol

Im on Head Gasket Failure 2
Rear windscreen dropping
electrical system wired wrong and draining battery
rear wiper on even when engine off - need to remove fuse all the time
radiator leak

I bought my 98 2l di 5 years ago.The day after i bought it i had to replace the knackered battery, not the hippo's fault.Soon after that i had a problem with the passenger window, made the mistake of taking it to a dealer, I think they charged me €100 to replace the burnt out switch, small change for the switch and 1 hours labour.
It developed a 2mmhole at the back of the engine block should have used a rubber sealed self tapping bolt, but i used rad seal each time it leaked coolant.
sunroof never worked ,cable broke,I took out the roof lining once and removed the sunroof and saw its too rusted to fix so till it leaks it shall stay in.
Bulk head over tailgate was leaking so after the first attempt at fixing with silicone and broke a few clips on the plastic trim, with roof lining out I duct taped all holes and pumped in a whole can of expanding foam.
Replaced tailgate regulator (why can the not supply the cables, when the motor was perfect)
Have learned to live with some of the doors not locking/unlocking with the fob some only work with the key and one only works by pushing button/pulling inside handle.
I had to eventually change the engine, warped head (considering the unfixed hole in the engine block and 166,000 miles, thats ok)
I had to replace the front shocks and brake discs and drums...........

I could rack my memory for all the other things I did and have yet to do,like fix the heater, cable wont go into wind screen position...........I digress,

anyway, I love my hippo, its easy to work on and a great vehicle for irish backroads

There is no other small 4x4 that looks as good.

Don't usually raise my head above parapet, so I'm prepared to get it bitten off, but is the poll not meaningless without model ownership info (if only 25% have a TD4, then they have all had engine problems!).

Our TD4 ES 2003 (Jan) MOT yesterday ... no problems ... again. But as she is getting on a bit now was thinking of a change so wondered how much running cost had been (seemed to be lots of paperwork). So I checked...
Owned since Dec 2004, and doing 10k year. Replaced injectors (75% paid by LR), viscous coupling, clutch master, air intake pipes, brake pads all round, annual services (first 2 by main dealer), MOTs, and all labour = £2000. In 5 years that's not bad going!

She's a keeper!
