2003 TD4 ES 5 Door
New discs/pads 25,000
Clutch Master Cylinder - 50,000 miles
Injector - 60,000
Rear diff mounts - 60,000
Dual mass flywheel worn - 60,000
Intermittent operation of folding door mirrors
Rear tailgate door not working sometimes
Replaced rear wiper arm 4 times so far due to scratching tailgate paint
Replaced rear ashtray twice - silicon oil keeps leaking out
Rear door check strap brackets re-welded to B posts

TD4 Auto 60,000 miles hard use
Taken across the Sahara, pay and play days every couple of months, weekends away greenlaning when I can, and driven into the quarry at work at every oppertunity.
Water leaked in from roof rails.
Rear diff leaked - resealed 3 times.
wheel bearing replaced.
Both front ball joints and arms replaced.
Both front dampers replaced.
Anti roll bar bushes replaced.
5 sets of front pads and 3 sets of disks.
Aux drive belt tensioner went, taking alternator, air con compressor and belt with it.
IRD gear box replaced.
Rear shoes replaced.
Exhaust back box replaced - forceably removed in the Sahara at speed!
Metal water pipe replaced - managed to crush the old one.
Sump guard replaced with 6mm ali checkerplate, the old one was very poorley.
The rest of the exhaust has been straitened several times.
Smashed one wheel off-road.
Destroyed four tyres off-road.
Head light bulbs seem to last 6 months.

Love it to bits, drives like a dream, cost like a nightmare, would I buy a eurobox - never again. 30MPG and £400 tax are a small price to pay for the grin she puts on my face every day.

Instead of bitching, has anybody thought of fitting as an addition the air blast oil cooler that was fitted to hot climate diesels? Although the bumper will need to be modified, I do not see why this would not work, it will keep engine and tranny oil cooler.

Biatching?!

After 9 years of ownership from new, continual assortment of 'issues', sticking with the FL through thick and thin....... hardly biatching is it?

What air intake mod?
With your post count in single figures......Sounds like someone trying to spam.

So far, major items of annoyance only
hgf x 2 (old type)
clutch shaft seized breaking cylinders
cable in rear window assembly rusted and snapped (expensive)
water in cubby box
3 amigos -costing one sensor and cv joint plus shuttle valve thingy

2000 V6i ES

Front Right Speed Sensor Failed - Replaced - All is well
Took off main prop and paid £120 to get it reconditioned at GKN in Leek, North Staffs due to bad vibration over 80MPH - All sorted.

She never lets me down, I have done 10000 miles in four months in the hippo, and she drives like a dream, loads, and i mean loads of power from the V6.

Wow! Was this poll set up to put off people interested in joining the Land Rover fold? I seem to believe that it would just appear to be the free lander.

My old man did a course in motorway vehicle recovery for his job, the recovery trainer called them FreeLoaders because the recovery lorries gave them a ride everywhere!

They also referred to Highways Agency Traffic Officers (HATO) as 'The Wombles', as they turn up and clear away all of the mess!

HATO's are traffic wombles. They are trying to tell recovery operators that if they want to pick up vehicles on the motorway they must have a highways agency qualification to do it.

It is a waste of time doing the course as the amount of money required to get everyone to do it cannot be recouped by the recovery operator. If you don't do the course you can still recover vehicles off the motorway for the police and all the breakdown clubs so it is completely pointless and is purely there to make the government more money.

No, but it is intended to give an indication of the main issues.

Something LR would never own up to and the poll itself could not be compiled from even the top industry surveys. It would cost too much money to gather the data from individual dealers.

By right, all the sub forums on LZ should have one, not much prettier for the other models, best 4 x 4 by far my @rse ;)

2001 KV6 auto with 105,000km's

$300 to get the air intake manifold rebuilt
$350 to get a new cat on exhaust after old one blocked up and blew the exhaust gaskets out

Gets really bad economy, even when driven gently. My old 1989 2.4 litre Hilux gets better economy and it's a 1.8 ton 4x4 with 33" Mud tires..

Plastic on the inside and outside doesn't like the Australian sun, all the air conditioning knobs are melted and sticky, all the grey plastic on the bumpers and sides goes really horrible light grey and flakey..

  • Just had to replace heater matrix
  • problems with viscous coupling, steering very stiff on turns and damper unit rattling.

had 53 plate td4 with 78k on clock with little bit of history for 2 months now i know it was owned by a chap who worked on a farm so had bin worked hard it looks as if the prop bearings and the coupling have just been done

i have had to change the sump plate as it was cracked and leaking oil
the rear ns wheel brake cylinder broke and lost all brakes
the drivers window keeps getting stuck
and the slave cylinder has now gone
lol

i bought it from auction so not to worried as i did pay a very good price for it
so got a little bit to spend on it

I have the 2001 V6 and even though I lost the original engine at 93,000 km to cylinder liner movement (common problem - only indicator was coolant disappearing somewhere into the engine), I actually love it and have fitted a new engine. The cost of the new engine was more than the resale value of the vehicle - so what? I have a (fingers crossed) good car that may last me a while.

Only other problem were fuel filter had to be replaced (blockage), and something dicky with the indicator stalk.

Time with my 2dr 06 TD4 is fast running out, thank goodness it's still in warranty.... Just!
Fuel pump last week, randomly exploding sunroof today.... Still pulling glass out of my head, arms and back!
