Hello all,
I am usually over on the Defender forum, but felt the expertise here would be model helpful. My daughter bought an 07 plate Freelander earlier this year. She spent quite a bit getting any minor things done, as she got it cheap. However, she noticed the clutch pedal kept going to the floor. It would usually pull up and drive as per usual. Until, one day in Crewe it wouldn't come back. Anyway, a local garage, claiming to know Land Rovers had it towed to their place. They changed this and that and still no better. Suffice to say, it had a clutch, flywheel, master and slave cylinders, which as you can imagine, cost quite a bit. Anyway, she had it back assuming all was well. It was for a while and then the same occurred again. Same garage had it back. Ah, Say they. There us a hydraulic hose that needs replacing, so this was done (not quite sure why is wasn't done in the first place. ), Still not better, so they decided, let's change the whole pedal assembly. Starting to sound like mud at the wall to me. Still, remember they claim to be a Landy specialist. Anyway, she had it back after being without it is for three week. Guess what! A month on and the same has happened. The garage did agree to have it back and change everything again. This sounds like they do not have a clue. They may well come and pick it up, but again, the inconvenience of being without a car etc etc.

So, over to you guys. Has anybody come across this before or some such? I do get the feeling that half the things probably didn't need doing, but there has to be something, unless a new component has failed. My daughter is rightly frustrated and not a little angry. Like many, it is her dog carrying vehicle as well as her daily, so any thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks

My fl2 pedal went to floor in July.
Short version of events.
Nephew took car into his VW dealership.
Changed slave, master, dmf and clutch and bleed pipe. All luk or LR parts. £1000 all but.
Sorted.
If master cylinder is changed then pedal assembly will be ok as its all part if the same assembly.
The only part thats left unchanged is the main hydraulic line along the bulkhead that could be at fault but unlikely.
Tell them to get it working at their cost because thats what you've already paid for. Perhaps they need to read the LR repair manual first.

Considering the entire clutch assembly is plucked straight out of a Ford Mondeo, along with most other mechanical parts on this vehicle, it shouldn't need to go to an LR specialist, in fact a Ford specialist would be more versed with the mechanical stuff.

As for the issue, it sounds hydraulic, possibly the master cylinder valve isn't seating correctly, allowing fluid to return the the reservoir, rather than force fluid down the lines to the slave. I'm presuming the reservoir was filled correctly, as it's combined with the brake reservoir.

It sound like you have had all the same stuff done as my girl. They do seem to have generally been clueless. She took it there as she was in Crewe and assumed it would be a LR specialist in the first instance. They have said they will look at everything, again.
I will maybe suggest the master cylinder comment

I note you are in Cannock, i don't know if your daughter is from the same area, but personally i would get the car back from these people they seem not to have a clue, get it sent to the place below, and bill the Crewe garage for any repair.

Thanks for the input Arctic 2. They (Crewe garage) have come to collect and say they are going to change it all again and are giving our daughter a courtesy car, but as you say, it sounds like they haven't got a clue. I will bear your place in mind as we are all in Cannock. Cheers
