Hi,
Does anyone know the correct part number for the coolant temperature sensor for a 1.8 2005 Freelander 1? I'm being quoted MEK100130, MEK100130L, MEK100060, MEK000030L, MEK500130......
They can't all be right??

Hi, according to LR parts list it depends if you have a brown or blue sensor fitted.
Brown p/no MEK100060L £25.57 inc vat
Blue p/no MEK100130L £34.27 inc vat

Thanks for the link. Going with the 'blue' (which is actually now black in colour) as the current one fitted is black, although impossible to say if this hasn't been changed before and whether the original was blue or brown. Not sure what the difference is between the two or why JLR can't tell from reg/vin/engine no what was originally fitted.

Perhaps they bunged all the sensors in one tote on the assy. line, then once the assy. person was blindfolded used the lucky dip technique as to what colour was fitted :D. Yes you would have thought a chassis no. would be involved somewhere in the colour options.
 
Or at least say what the differences are and the impact fitting the other one would create if swapped. They both have the same temperature range and the size / thread is supposedly the same
 
I believe there are 2 temp sensors. On on the inlet manifold for the incoming air temp', coloured green , and the other on the coolant 'outlet elbow' which is just above the exhaust manifold, black [ MEK000030 ] or could be blue [ YCB100420 - needs a different seal [ MDY100080]]. Hope that helps.

Not on the UK facelift 1.8 petrol models (2005). There is no coolant temperature sensor on the inlet manifold (that I recall)..... MEK000030 is the blue coolant temperature sensor (which is actually black nowadays) and a brown coolant temperature sensor (MEK100160) both sensor require the seal (MDY100040)...... The difference between the 2 sensors is at the connector end, where the MEK100160 has 2 lugs (like handles) on the end and MEK000030 doesn't have these....... Cheers
 
The sensor on the manifold is the intake air temperature sensor. The ECU needs to know the intake air temperature, and the manifold pressure (using the MAP sensor), and throttle position. By using the feedback from these 3 sensors, it can work out the engine load, and calculate fueling and ignition timing accordingly.
The ECM also uses the coolant temperature sensor to make tiny modifications to fueling and ignition, as these will vary slightly, depending on engine temperature.
