Hi

Does the engine always cut when hot, how does it restart after that ?

Crank sensor can give issue when the engine is hot.

For the engine temperature, you complain that the engine cut when hot, it has already one head gasket, an fan issue …

Coolant is less efficient after many years ( should be changed every 3 years ), water pump can wear ( should be changed each 6 years ).

yes, it cuts only when hot. When I start it (immediately, or next day, no matter what), it cranks a bit, but it starts.
IF I did it immediately, so it's still hot, it cuts again. IF it's, let's say, next day, it will start with no other problem.
The best workaround I found is that when it starts this problem, I turn on the Air Condition. When I do it, it has no other problem, and it can run forever. (obviously, it's not ideal during winter, and furthermore, it is a bandaid, not a solution).

I change the coolant once a year, just to make sure. And water pump (which has no leaks etc) was changed 5000km ago.
I find this,
Engine Coolant Temperature °C
Cold 40 (104)
Normal 75 - 115(167 - 239)
Hot (Red zone) 120 (248)
from a member here, so I think that the temperature I measure (again, through torque, and on different Freelanders) seems normal. Not sure though, and a manual I found refers to everything, BUT the normal temperature, or even how the system works. I mean, which part of the car is responsible to cut the engine? ECU? temp sensor?

Did the crank sensor have been changed ?
Crank sensor can start giving issue when the engine is hot, and since it’s needed to control the fuel timing …
