Sorry mate, didn't mean or intend any offence, just hate when people are rude on forums...banter is to be expected though :)

No offence taken lol. I don't like it when people are rude either, I think it can put a lot of people off from ever posting again.

I believe that pre 2002 drive shafts had rings and post no rings as it was built into shaft.

Do you have any lights on the dash?

If you dont have these rings, then the ABS will not work, and you will have an ABS warning on the dash too.

As standard, the ABS light comes on when you start up and remains on until you roll more than 10mph (I think its 10?) which will put it out.

If you dont have these rings, you may find the abs warning light has been bodged to hide the fault.

See Freelaner, it's all about appreciation when you help somebody out. Makes you feel good dosen't it. Well done mate. :)

No. Help should go to those who go about it in the right manner, as said manners are free.

You wouldn't help someone on the street who used the same manner as some of the noobs so why should it differ online ?

don't need a lesson in that tvm ;)

this guy introduced himself first and regards the forum ettiquette :)

Exactly unlike that cnut with 17" wheels………...

Forum etiquette is something of a dying trend.....besides manners are free! :)

:)

at least you got past your first post and are still here, a lot post once then get their question answered and bugger off :(

He did alright on his intro ;)

:clap2::clap2::clap2: Honestly it dosen't bother me I just like to help out when I can :focus:

Theres a difference between helping those that deserve it though and those that sign up and go "hi I'm new here and need help on x,y and z because I'm new and you should all help me because I'm new and demand it as its my right to get free advice because I'm new"

Think that's only on early models, 2003 should go out after start up.

Thanks everyone for your replies.... At present the only light that illuminates at start up is the green hdc light...no abs, no tc.....bit worrying really!

i bet who ever put the new drive shafts on either disconected the sensors or they have had it or as been said they do not have the rings on ,when you put a new driveshaft end on you are supposed to change the sensors, as the old ones will be rusted in and have not got the right distance ,or if you can get the sensor out just shove it down onto the ring, and as soon as you move the car it will find its own distance.hope this helps

Well have had a quick poke about underneath and can see that I have ring on the drivers side, not on the passenger side though  also after removing the cowl and getting into the clocks, find that it looks as if someone has tried to dig out a couple of the warning bulbs....I'm guessing one must be tc light

Does the ABS light come on when you put the ignition as I mentioned earlier?

If you have no TC, especially due to a missing pickup ring on the driveshaft, its pretty much guaranteed that you don't have working ABS either.

The bulbs in the dash for the warning lamps are actually tiny surface mount LED's. The caveman that owned my car before me chiseled a load off the clocks to put out the warning lamps for ABS and TC....it was too much faff to try to replace them so I got second hand clocks instead.

With working warning lamps, you will have a clearer idea of what is what or not, but ultimately it will need plugged into a diagnostic machine to verify the fault. Granted the missing pickup ring is a very likely suspect, but there may be plenty of other faults in the system too.....faulty sensors etc. Mine was a dead ABS pump, that meant ABS, TC and HDC all wouldn't work.

Bugger :(

at least you are on the way to a conclusion.

Thanks mate, been having a better look this evening...looks as if the bulbs that have been hacked at are ABS and TC lights, HDC light does work, and the HDC system itself does seem to work, can feel the brakes pulsing when in 1st gear when you back off the throttle....although it is very sporadic and only works when the car is first started up!

sorry to hijack this thread but I cant seem to find a thread with my problem, my traction control acts as if it is working so light comes on when wheels are slipping and pump makes a noise but earlier today I grounded my car with a cross axle, so osf and nsr were up in the air the light was flashing and the pump whirring but the wheels were happily spinning! Any thoughts?

abs pump fault?

duff sensor?

mechanical rather than electrical :scratching_chin:

edit: or is it that they just appear to working?

try all connections and the sensor rings could be choked with mud
