Yup!
The HK headunit has power and control wires which match up to your ISO lead but the speaker wires bit is a different kettle of fish.
The output from the HK unit goes to the amp under the seat with <1v output to be amplified to speaker level output. You cant feed your amp with the speaker level outputs from your new headunit.
What you need to do is simple, but time consuming.
Remove the HK amplifier from under the seat. The multiplug left behind has a number of contacts on it, a few are power, ground and remote ON. You won't need them.
There will be 8 wires from the head unit. The others are + and - for each of the four door speakers and two pair for the subwoofer in the boot floor.
Each of the door speakers have wires which are like coloured, sorry but I didnt make a note of the colours when I did it so you will have to do the whole job.

Find the 8 wires from behind the head unit by using a multimeter set to Ohms and match them up to the ones under the seat. Just ping them out, its easy.
That leaves you with the ones to the speakers and the power etc.
As the speakers are colour coded (grey/white - grey black etc) you can find which pairs go to which speaker.
Now its a simple case of connecting the new head unit through. Left front output to left front speaker etc.
I bought a cheap 5 channel amp from fleabay and put it under the seat so the sub would be in the system.

See here for clues - http://www.greenlandrover.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/04/P1050637.jpg
This guy did it different to me, I just cut the wires and reterminated.

Thinking of going down this route as well. Now that you have had these fitted a while, what are your thoughts on the units you purchased? Which units did people buy? I have to say that i'm a little put off of the unit 2.0 Hippo bought due to the problems encountered with it.

mine is a Eonon G2213D and so far (touch wood) has been fine, plays dvd's/mp3's/sat nav/touch screen/usb and aux inputs etc etc etc...sound quality in mine is pretty good (i have got harmon kardon though :) ) admittedly not as good as an alpine/jvc double din but at less than a quarter of the cost I ain't complaining :)

There must be unlucky ones out there that's all.
After that experience I said id never buy another cheap china unit but I have gone back on my words and bought one for my range rover
Which is brilliant ! But it did cost a few quid more than the freelander unit
£400 more infact !
You get what you pay for i guess !

Just with the freelander unit I didn't like that the only support was through email to a Chinese person !

Marks has been ok tho so who knows !!! Lol

Marky, I hope my reopening of this thread hasn't put the kiss of death on your unit. I'll have a look around Ebay again and decide on which unit to buy. I have the HK audio system too.

LOL..fingers crossed gibbo! post back when you've got one and i'll share the secret of getting the hk to work ;)

Hi Marky, I am planning to fit a 2DIN DVD on my 2006 Freelander. I have read through these posts but still not sure if I need a complete adaptor kit (eBay - The UK's Online Marketplace) or the fascia is enough (CT24LR03 Land Rover Freelander 2005 > Black Fascia Facia Adaptor Panel Surround (5055193312015) | eBay). Which one have you used? I know that besides this I will need ISO adaptor and steering wheel control adaptor as well.
Cheers.

Post up which head unit you've got in it now and we can sort it out :D

Got these pictures from internet. My radio is identical.

thats the same as I had fitted so firstly you will need an iso adapter which is Autoleads PC2-80-4, mine was £1.45 gbp delivered!

As for the fascia kit, it depends on what will come with your new unit? It should come with the double din cage so you should only need the fascia surround (ct24lr03).

Again it all depends on what your new unit is as to whether you will need a steering adapter. My unit had the wires in the harness so just I spliced them into the car harness, no adapter needed :D

Good luck in your shopping, post up if you need any help....

Thanks, Marky. You helped a lot! I will check if my unit comes with a cage.
I will follow your steps regarding the steering wheel control wiring. I have to choose the unit brand when buying the adaptor, but there are only major brands to choose from. I am buying a Chinese unit (Erisin). So I would have to splice the wires anyway.
Cheers!

LOL :D:D:D:D

I'll give you that one kiddo....but I'll copyright the HK workaround :cool::cool:

haha - A done deal !

Im meaning to copyright up the range rover version now as the first thing i did was stick in an aftermarket touch screen to mine and got it working with my lovely 11 speaker amp'd system - steering controls and all ! :D
