Decided to add some security to my Landy.

Fitted a heavy duty telescopic security post in my driveway. Had to dig a hole 1250mm deep:eek: through solid clay. The pull up post weighs 27KG but I opted for a hydraulic lift assist mechanism that reduces the weight to 7KG.

It measures 870mm above ground and has a double layer post, and is a Sold Secure certified product.

Thinking of fitting a ground anchor ive seen also, for when I leave the car on the drive when im on holiday etc.

Now you see it..

Depends on the type of post I guess.

If you fitted a telescopic post then Im sure it would work. I guess your tarmac is only a few inches thick, with clay/subsoil underneath. I think when its in the upright position there is still about 300mm of post still below ground.

The hard bit is digging the hole, which I did by hand as I was frightened of hitting service pipes etc if I used a mechanical hole borer.

The only negative side is that my drive is on solid clay, so the post hole will surely fill with water with nowhere for it to drain.

Was goin to fit a lift off post, but thought a telescopic post might mean I can get the wife to lift it at night if I forget:D

B&Q do a post hole digger fer £20..... great tool

Yeh, I used one of those scissor type things, they are good for removing loose soil from the bottom of the hole, but I didnt find it any good for breaking up the compact clay.

I started with a post spade but as I got deep I found one of these to be invaluable.

im surprised, i had no problems with clay just boulders half in the hole

whilst i own one i never think of them as something i would nick....i can understand if it was fast

Have you ever tried offroading in a nissan 200sx? Or towing plant machinery with a bmw M3?;):p

Landys are nicked either to be abused offroad, to help nick other stuff, to be shipped overseas or to be broken and sold on in bits. Unfortunately that makes em bloody desireable to the scum on this planet.
