Must say that your Disco looks good apart from the shelf like rear bumper!
In terms of fitting bigger wheels, my 3dr has 2inch wider flexi arches, 8" wide 16" Modulars, 30mm wheel spacers, a 2" lift and 285 wide Kumho KL71's. No catching so far, stop locks adjusted and i'm on standard bumpstops at the moment!
Always scope to go that bit bigger

as i've said before... i'm not wallowing in tons of time, but nor do i have any money, so making the right decision first time is absolutely crucial - i'm balancing a fine line between selling the Land Rover because I can't afford it, and spending the absolute minimum to keep it running well and future-proofed.
I therefore try to do as much work on it as I can myself, but with not many tools and a huge lack of skills, it's difficult!!
And I'm thorough by nature... that's just how I am!
In summary - no skills, lack of tools, broke, but very thorough and desperate to keep the Landy on the road!
And thank you Stu... your ****-taking posts always make me laugh too. And yes - I know they're aimed at me!
I therefore try to do as much work on it as I can myself, but with not many tools and a huge lack of skills, it's difficult!!
And I'm thorough by nature... that's just how I am!
In summary - no skills, lack of tools, broke, but very thorough and desperate to keep the Landy on the road!

yeah, i know... i have to think of my pence per mile too though... i'm not tight fisted, just lacking spare cash!

All the hours of you rolling around on the floor with the wrong tools, problems get sorted in minutes with the vehicle in the air and the correct tools

i agree entirely... but if it takes me 8 hours to do a 3 minute job and it saves me £20 then it really is worth it at the moment, sadly... i'm a busy chap and have no time, but i have even less money!

computer/network engineer best describes it, I guess - i look after a couple of hundred windows & linux desktops, laptops, servers, the internal company network, internet link, phone system etc... i'm not on minimum wage, but I'm no millionaire either.
Trouble is, i do about 15,000 miles per year (personal, not business) and at 25p per mile I spend an average of £72 per week (£312 per month) on diesel. Combined with a summer of many steam rallies and events which we stay at for days at a time and relatively large families to buy for at Christmas we are always very close to the edge financially!!
So... we do live one hell of a life, don't get me wrong... I have a classic motorcycle to keep running too and a knackered old caravan (which we stay in at the events), so when i say i'm broke, what I mean is, i'm broke due to our lifestyle.
If we stopped going to any events over summer, or did away with Christmas I'd have more money.
Or.. if I got rid of the Land Rover i'd have more money.
I cannot do either!!

I know what you mean. I live in a nice house, have 3 cars including an expensive 330 convertible, and manage to lead a good life, but for that I am always skint.
The cost of fuel now don't help and I have started to think about popping over to see mates because putting £115 in the tank a week ain't good.

i can also sympathise . as im a student at universitybut most of us brought cars (being in a remote area of the country) i have absolutley no money despite on full loan but im never going to let my disco go! the best thing ive got is mates who know a lot more than me and combined a fair set of tools. having said that. it still took us 10 hours to change a swivel bearing on oone side due to lack of experiocance, and a sheared bolt....
The one thing i tell myself before i do any job is, its never as simple as you hope. the main money saver for me is Biodiesel (local farm makes it) save about 50p every liter. im sure with the amount of milage you do it could be a worth while thing to reasearch?

I do my best mate, its an easy target,
As I've have said before I am on a very tight budget as well, sperated with 4 kids,a job that makes no money at all, so making the best desion is of the up most importance.....as Matt knows things are tuff for me as well, no doubt his fed up with all my deliberatins.... and wishes.

i've always thought about bio-diesel... there's a place near me that sells it for 129p per litre. Not much of a saving at all.
I also asked my local chip shop about their waste oil, and (a) there isn't much of it and (b) they dispose of it by giving it away to a disposal company for free due to some regulations or something... they did give more detail than that, but I forgot it. Basically, I cannot get old chip oil from them.
Also... my understanding is that you need a relatively expensive filtering setup which consumes a fair amount of space... you do save money in the long run, but it's quite expensive to get setup.
I need to research it more, basically.
Oh, and I got a better photograph of where the camel cut needs to happen...
The photograph doesn't show it as well as the human eye physically being there does, but I drew in the mud with my finger, so I know where to make the cut now!

thought i would show a picture of the cut i did, aalthough i have slightly bigger tyres 265/75/16 . i cut from in line with the top of that plastic bit to just infront of the mudflap bracket. bit of over kill but hopefully gonna fit bigger wheels eventually so thought i would do it right the first time.

no unfoertunatly the cutting was done by a friend as he wanted to test out his disc cutter :lol: while i was changing a swivel bearing
