Picked up a replacement rear door tonight - as from previous experience, it's easier to simply swap a whole door, than it is to faff with getting window regulators to work happily, AND to get the glass gripped properly.

Plate needs to be properly fitted tomorrow, and the wiring needs to be traced back....

The second I connected the wiring, the window dropped to the bottom, and refused to be operated by the dash switch. So for now, I've disconnected the motor wiring clip, and just shoved 12v across it to close the window.

And dear god these handles are weedy - one nut came off nicely, one sheared, and the other just span - so it was tore off in the end. Currently held on with ONE stud....

Wiper motor was still unresponsive too (I just thought it was disconnected on the old door) and the rear screen heater switch won't even light up.

Looks like I've got a fair bit of rewiring to do, lol. Does anyone know if the Haynes covers the earlier wiring diagrams? As the copy of RAVE I've got is only 2001>

Legend!

Also, a bit of hunting reveals that the rear wiper, washer, nor demister work, id the ccu is whinging about calibration... which is made a bit fiddly by the fact it won't even raise off the switch to allow me to calibrate!

Didn't know the key in the boot handle could raise it too? Something to try tomorrow :)

eventually got the rear window recalibrated - now the wipe/wash, window, and demister all work again :D

On saturday, I'll be (trying, lol) to swap out the gear selector for one in better condition, checking the ABS sensors, and inspecting the interior light - as it only comes on with the door, not on the manual switch.

It's also pants, so going to look at replacing with an LED strip

The clock's also getting irritating:

So going to need to find something in-fitting to replace it with. I've previously had this little thing, which lived in two cars in its lifetime:

I'd love something along the lines of a nixie clock, but am I bollocks paying close to £100 for a clock

Are you a Steampunk enthusiast by any chance?

Or just a show off? :)

That thing is beautiful..... Love steampunk, and Dieselpunk too!

Styled my (still unfinished) jet engine on the styles :)

Still needs oil feed/drain pipes, and a better oil pump (may just use a 12v fuel pump, instead of a drill-powered power steering pump)

that blue fan on the left looks like one out of a keston boiler , lol

no idea what it's originally off tbh - massive old beast I bought off my Tutor, which will be used for starting the jet engine.... one day

why do they call it a hippo..? degrading the motor itself to me, but then, what do I know.

LR used it in an ad supposedly after a reporter commented on its looks at the launch.

They probably didn't realise at the time of the similarity in temperament :p

It was actually a typo. It was meant to to be a casual welcome to what Land rover knew was a pile of crap. At the press launch, the PR guy greated it with the, now famous, phrase " Hi poo".
Unfortunately this was overheard an misinterpreted as "Hippo". The rest is an unfortunate mistake compounded as history. :D

The wiper washer and IIRC heater on tailgate windows wont work unless the system 'knows' the door is shut and the window wound up-.

Or were you talking about the front wipers?

It was indeed the rear wipers - shortly after I wrote that I learnt of the CCU, and how to recalibrate the rear window. Not even owned it a week and I've learnt about a lot of the common failures... as mine has them

Best way to learn IMO :)
