So after many years of waiting i finally landed myself a 110 Defender today. Happy is an understatement.
She is a 2001 2.5 TDi County SW and I can't stop looking at her lol

After getting her home though I have discovered that I can't lock the doors. The remote key fob doesn't seem to work (probably battery) but when I turn the key in the driver's door it locks and then unlocks after a second or two. Anybody know what could be the cause of this?

Im fortunate enough to have her secure tonight, but want to go out in her tomorrow but don't want to leave her unlocked. All help and advice muchly appreciated.

thanks

Jim

Thanks for the reply. I have just googled solenoid adjustment and it seems it could be the answer. I will take the door cards off tomorrow and have a look.

I'd say something fouling the solenoid workings/lock linkages or one has slipped. Have you tried opening all doors and trying to lock when they are open? Could be a misaligned door/catch?!? I'd try that first, unlikely to be it but much easier than taking door cards off :)

Fob likely battery or will need resynching

Be careful removing the door cards as the little clips can break off.
Remove it carefully, don't just undo the handles then wrench it away from the door!

2001 Defender would be a TD5 not a TDi ;)
Slip of the keyboard ;)

I tried changing the fob battery for a new one and no joy, i tried opening all the doors and locking with key and it just unlocks again.

Looks like the key fob may need resynching, anyone know how to do this?

Is resynching easy to do?[/QUOTE]

Should be able to set the locking by the front drivers door.

Thanks for that Tim but that shows how to set the adjustment of the solenoid and not how to resynch the remote fob with the central locking.
