Yeah, we only had 100 miles ish, but towing the 'van at 40 -50 on M1 was a bit fraught .. within 3 miles we very nearly turned round for the tent .. ;)

Stunning fun weekend although very windy at night, £20 for a camping weekend was a bargain. Loos we great, lots of loo roll etc, they were a bit far but that was where the water was I was told, you wouldn't want to sleep next to them. We drove 2.5 hrs there, 3 hours off road and 2.5 hrs back to London on less than 1 tank of petrol in a v8, there is a God!

We travelled light with just the tent, sleeping bags etc and used the facilities & food available, it was for charity so no issue with the bar prices and the burgers & bacon rolls were perfect! I was amazed at the effort before we arrived, the Marque stood up to the weather as did the kids tent with the large screen, perfect to give the adults a break and to entertain the kids, better still, watching some of the footage of the days offroading and the water splash scene.

As first timers to the group we felt really welcomed, so thanks to everyone who met and the kids that entertained our two girls, I think we had eight in our tent at one point. For me it was a chance to test my p38 and myself off road, the groups where well organised and I really appreciated the frank & honest advice from everyone in our group before we set off.

I needed the advice and they where all willing to spare me the time. We got muddy, we didn't get stuck, no brake downs and I now officially love my car, very capable. I've never concentrated so hard since i first drove 30 years ago. Fantastic adrenalin rush, now I know why you do it :)

So we'll be back, if anyone greenlaning anywhere with 1 hour of Surrey please let my know.

P.S. Jack Daniels & Coke in a can, why hadn't I found this before, superb!

At the end of the day, people come on here for all sorts of reasons, whether it be technical knowlage or a bit of banter. The person on the other end of the screen can have any sorts of interests, any sort of standards and also any sort of accent!
We get so used to talking to people behind a screen and conveying are emotions through smileys which can be misinterpreted.
Put these people in a field, many of who have never met each other and the end result was very good. You are forced to speak to people in a senario where you wouldn't normally. I have been to a few landrover shows but never approached a club stand and spoke to anyone because there wasn't really an icebreaker. Here most people were in the same boat.

You will never get a location to suit everyone. You will never please everyone and it's far to easy to pick out flaws in something. It was a brilliant weekend and if people's main concern was the toilets being too far away and the price of beer it wasn't that bad was it?

For a first go I thought it was bloody brilliant. I am looking forward to the next one and intend to go on the next laning trip as a result of meeting people from this event. The event can only grow!

I have much more to add, but need to compose it in me head and it's fried at the moment

Organising convoys to the event would be good, especially for those furthest away. It would make the journey fun and be reassuring for anyone concerned about their Landy getting there.

:5biagree: Wot he said:)
A small group of people sweated blood to make this happen, for no other reason than to make sure everyone had the best time possible. They then asked for input to ensure the next event is even better, only to find some people complaining that the event wasn't on their doorstep, or that there weren't hotels on the site.

I hate camping, and with a 2 1/2 hour drive each way, I was neither the closest or furthest from the site. But I went with the hope of meeting some of the people from the group, and having the best time I could. This was fulfilled in spades, thanks in no small part to a few people who didn't seem to stop working all weekend. Kirsty (?) was even chasing the morning cow when most people were still asleep!

I think what I'm trying to say is "constructive comments yes, whinges no", and from me another thank you to the organisers.

OK in answer to the above and others who think my comments are winges after the event.

Everything I have said on here I said right at the beginning.

I am not taking anything away from this years event, but are suggesting things for next year. There is a lot more time available for planning and booking this time.

I dont know about others, but I did suggest venues and ring round a few. They weren't suitable, but I did try.

I also started organising our Northern lot to attend and put it in their diaries and plans. Those who go in our threads know how that ended.

And I know how hard the organisers worked, I have done similar events years ago, you often don't get time to enjoy the do yourself. They did a particularly brilliant job considering the tight time scales.

Yu are wasting your time Sue.

We answered the q about feedback, but if alternative venues and dates are not viable options then why bother. Whingeing - certainly not. As Fanny said yu can't whinge about something you didn't get involved in. Constructive comments - certainly. Others that know me know how much I have personally been involved in the past. I understand what an expensive pain in the arse it is organising these events.

Be open minded and look at ALL feedback. It might get more people to attend in future.

.

So you're saying that the peeps you go laning with decided to cancel their plans to attend the event, because you have had a falling out with 1 other member who would have been at the event? If that's so & I can't believe that it is. Then how pathetic would that make them??? The alternative is that you whinged and schemed and moaned at them and put them in a position where they felt that they had to choose sides. Which would make you a self centered selfish vindictive cow.. I'm not sure which scenario is worse.

yep everyone is entitled to their own opinions. :amen:

But it's still a shame that some people let personal agenda's get in the way of supporting an LZ event. .

There were elements who wished to hijack the event without contributing to organising event with unreasonable unproductive demands- these were simply sandboxed or in my case I simply ignored them.

The overall thread is positive and some suggestions that can easily be implemented for next event, thank you to all that joined us at event and their families.

Oh and biolandy with his oil demo- I missed tail end as i had to visit toilet, but a thread would be great about alternative fuels.

Love the convoy idea. We are happy to trundle across/up/down from East Suffolk alone (I do Sheffield, Oxfordshire by myself regularly so no issue there) but to meet up along the way with some others would be great :D

I am also happy to help out at the venue too so as soon as the next date can be sorted, the better as I'll book it in my diary now!

i cancelled my plans to attend in support of sue.

as a bit of background, yes sue does talk a lot, and it could be classed as whinging by some, she also does a lot of organising and has spent considerable time sorting routes and checking legalities of lanes.
a lot of laning newbies have been introduced thru theses outings.

for thoses that know her, a sue filter needs to be applied, and the information required has to be sifted to gain the bits needed, and know what to discard or ignore.

sometimes its easier to just to do it and reap the consequences afterwards.
i have a lot of respect for landyzone, and i also have a lot of respect for sue.
finances permitting, i will be attending next year.
