Evening all,

Got the three Amigos come up on my Disco 2 (ABS, Traction Control and Hill descent warning lights). so out came the Hawkeye and it has thrown up these fault codes -

4130 - Rear left height sensor out of range (Short or broken wire)
4131 - Rear right height sensor out of range (Short or broken wire)
4150 - Rear left (power amp with electrical connection interrupted)
4151 - Rear right (power amp with electrical connection interrupted)
4152 - Exhaust (power amp with electrical connection interrupted)
4153 - Compressor (power amp with electrical connection interrupted)

That all sounds to me like a bad connector or bad earth...But where??
Anyone got any idea where i can start looking, or if you've got another idea of what it all could mean??
Any help with this would be really appreciated.

behind the glovebox, there are more ECU's there(BCU, ACE if fitted)...the one with 5 plugs in it is the SLABS ECU

Ok, so i've checked out the SLABS ECU connector's, all seemed clean and dry. Sprayed some switch cleaner in there to make sure.
Reconnected everything and cleared the fault codes.
Took it for a drive and all was good for about 5 miles, then they all came back again....
So, anybody got any ideas what to try next??
 
i've re-read your first post and just realised that all the fault codes there are related to SLS which has nothing to do with ABS...the fact that you checked the plugs is good anyway cos SLS and ABS share the same ECU. Read the codes again but now enter in the ABS section with Hawkeye.
 
Am i right in thinking that the height sensors are only fitted to vehicles with SLS??
The Exhaust and compressor faults obviously are connected to airbag suspension BUT I've got Coil springs....
If a coil sprung Disco has no rear height sensors then none of the fault codes i have are related to my vehicle.
So what could that mean, Faulty SLABS ECU?? can it be reprogrammed??

I'll put money on the fact that your car originally had air springs,someone removed them but didn't tell the car,so it's throwing up faults for a system that is no longer there.

Go into the programming section and tell the car it's on coil springs now.
 
^^^+1, as above... those fault codes are all for air suspension cos the previous owner didnt set the ECU for coils.... for the 3 amigos you have to find ABS related faults stored in the ABS part of the ECU...if no faults for ABS and the 3 amigos are still on there's some trouble with the ECU, or it's feed/earth...quite uncommon to have 3 amigos without faults stored though, check F11 in engine bay and F28 in the interior fusebox , and see this(though this is for the cases when the are fault codes stored but with a LR you never know) http://www.landroverclubvi.com/uploads/2/3/9/8/2398536/troubleshooting_abs-hdc-tc_warning_lamp.pdf
 
UPDATE -
Hooked the Hawkeye up again, went through the ABS programming menu, and sure enough it was set up for Airbags not coils!!! Changed back to coils and cleared the codes and all seems good (only drove a couple of miles though)
I've had the car for a little over two years now though and that's the first problem i've had with it...seems strange, if it was set for airbags why didn't i have any problems before??
Surely the ECU couldn't have just changed it's settings by itself...
Anyway, all seems good at the minute so thanks for all your help and advice.
If there's any development i'll be sure to let you know..haha.. lets hope not though...

i must say again that the 3 amigos(ABS/HDC/TC) have nothing to do with the suspension setting... at least would be the first time i hear about such thing...the 3 amigos will come on again i'm sure .... remember what i said in my previous post

anyway there's something strange there cos you must have had the SLS warning on if it wasnt set on coils

No, i had no SLS warning.
And i'll admit that it wouldn't surprise me at all if the 3 amigos were to return..

The only faults though were related to the SLS and now i have no fault codes...
Ah well, time will tell...just keep my fingers crossed.

Hi Fery, I had a '99 TD5 until recently and it had been converted to coils,but gave out no sls error messages. It was also still on air suspension setting, until I 'Hawkeye'd' it - had loads of sls fault codes though !!!!
 
Ok, so latest update -

Took the car out and 3 amigos return, Grrr
Plugged the Hawkeye in again and this is my fault code now.

4084 - HISTORICAL Sensor Right Hand Front (intermittent sensor output during driving, broken wire)

If i clear the fault codes and rescan, it says no faults...(and no lights)
Then go for a drive, lights come on at some random point (not just straight away) rescan i get that fault again...
So is this all down to a broken sensor??
Is it reporting it as 'historical' because it's an intermittent fault that resets when i switch the ignition off and on again??

Sorry to keep on with this, and i really do appreciate all your input...
I'm a pretty competent spanner man, but not with electronics and diagnostic systems...
 
So finaly a result:) ... IMO that code was there since the 3 amigos popped out first time but for some strange reason it didnt show untill now or you accessed the wrong menu... the most obvious reason for that is a worn wheel hub(which will come with sensor fitted if you'll end up buying it). You can do some research to get closer to the answer

1. unplug the sensor(if it's the plugged type) and read the resistance with multimeter on the pins of it's plug, there must be between 950-1100 ohm...bend the wire with your hand along it from place to place and see if it interrupts or not

2. lift that side, set the multimeter on AC ask somebody to keep the meter's terminals in the senspr's plug and rotate the wheel with your hand as hard as you can...the voltage must start to grow together with the rotation up to 1.5V or even more ...

it's good to use a multimeter with digital display and if at point 2 the voltage doesnt grow constanly or is erratic or not at all but the resistance is like in point 1 then it's the hub....if you get open circuit or some other resistance than those shown above you might be lucky and fix it by replaceing only the sensor ...you have some info here http://www.landroverclubvi.com/uplo...warning_lamp_illumination_troubleshooting.pdf ... disregard the ECU failure theory for the beginning though as you said there was no codes and the 3 amigos on it could be that too.

If the sensors are the hardwired to ECU type then you must have a RAVE and know how to use the electrical library of it if you want me to guide you further.

If you are a good spanner man as you said and you better work harder than with electrics you can remove the front wheels and calipers(i think that's enough) and swap the sensors between them then go for a ride...if the fault will move to the left side than it's the sensor at fault, if not it means it's the hub or worst the wiring or ECU

let's hope you have plugged sensors...good luck
 
Hi All,

Just a quick question to the Hawkeye users, my D2 is not starting.... I obtained a Hawkeye and had a few codes on her :( They are ranging from the following:

3129 Road speed missing
3183 Injector 1 Peak Charge Logged
3184
3185
3186
3187 Injector 5 Peak Charge Logged

Ignoring the first one, the injector peak charge might be from me putting the jump leads on her I dont know. I decided to clear them and see if they come back on a crank and they didnt.

I have another error telling me that I have a 'CM Rom Checksum Error', any ideas?

There was a few other errors logged, but marked as historical about the compressor and the suspension, but nothing active.

Would a faulty CPK showup on Hawkey?

Have I a dead ECU and if so which one is it - the one in the engine bay, or one somewhere in the cabin.

I've removed the pump from the tank and it was mouldy to say the least, new fuel filter fitted. Could it be the pump?
