I've posted this on the for sale/wanted page, but thought I'd ask here too, as it's local. Does anyone have a straight disco 1 rear bumper for sale not too far away from Colchester?

Cheers
Steve

Long shot but anyone had experience with HiLux Surfs?
Land Cruisers are way too expensive so this is a viable alternative to a Disco daily, cheap too.

Seeing as Clarkson couldn't destroy one thought it would b a wise choice.
2nd generation 3.0l appear to be pretty bomb proof. Plenty on eBay for under £1500.
I imagine it might suffer a bit road roading with the rear overhang.
Cabriolet has become a summer only car so need a good all rounder to use and just thinking the Toyota will cause less headaches than a LR.

Just fort i post on here to see if anybody on here is up for Essex off road next week got some new tyres on mine want to give them a little work out , also can't decide on wheels as new tyres I got are on range rover classic and my old wheel are wellers

HiLux's are good, expensive for parts though and the wheelbase is quite long. What sort of 4x4 are you after? Is it to carry stuff or just for general use? I found the Shoguns to be the best VFM by a long way when it came to cheap 4x4's, the Hi-Lux wont have any diff or steering guards as standard as it is a pure utility vehicle, the Shoguns come with everything you need as standard and a lift kit for a SWB shogun is £25!

You need a SWB shogun though, the LWB's are a bit too low for laning, your looking about £1200 for a decent SWB, they do come with rear lockers though ;)

It's gonna be my work hack and general daily to use in winter and whenever the weather is crap.
After something spacious and comfortable and importantly reliable. Got the car trailer 3500kgs towing capacity is important as well.
Surf ticks the boxes cause of the massive cabin for ability to chuck a small bungalow in the back. Also has enough mod cons to keep me happy. Also heard good things about the 3.0l engine.
No off road courses but will want to green lane with you guys again which may well cause issues with the rear overhang.

Completely forgot about the Shogun SWB tbh, what they like for space inside and towing?
Do they all have rear lockers?

They are quite small inside, with the back seats up there is a fair bit of room but no where near a Surfs capacity, more like a decent sized hatchback. They tow well but not 3500 I don't think, they do drive very well and if you get a GLS you get a center and rear diff lock as standard

If its a work hack then Surfs are ideal, don't go for the L200 as they are terrible, Landcruisers are good but silly money for parts, Shoguns really are great VFM, the LWB is good but needs big tyres and lifting to keep the ground clearance...

Hmmm might look into LWB shoguns then, they got locking centre and rear Diffs too?
Know any good owners clubs?

Pajero owners club is the only one I know and tbh its OK but not that great.

If you look at Shoguns then you want a GLS, they come with the rear locker. The non-GLS models will be either open or LSD diffs. All of them come with a center diff-lock, steering guards, diff guard, transfer box guard and tank guard, they have all the recovery points already and are pretty much ready to go. The front suspension is torsion bar so can be lifted 2" no problem, the rear you can lift with blocks on the springs that cost about £50 (or if its a SWB you fit LWB springs).

Parts are cheap, loads of second hand stuff, just make sure rear bearings are solid as they are a ####er to do and expensive. The engines are 2.5 or 2.8 diesel or V6 petrol, all are good, I have a 2.5 and its fine, uses same VE pump as land rovers and runs on veg oil. They are good VFM, most are autos though so if you want a manual be prepared to hunt.

Hmmm reckon that puts a LWB Shogun above a Surf. No lockers or guards on the Toyota.

Have to see what the towing rates are for the SWB and LWB and go from there :)

Be a diesel, that's thirty enough lol. Auto is good for towing but not a fan when off roading, might get lucky and find a manual.
