Found this after my little accident when I flooded the inside of the landy.....

Much higher and I'd have needed a new engine

Snorkel is on the list :D

Snorkel is high on the list I hope lol.
I'd rate it just as high as doing the cam belt.

The above pic says it all i agree, but then i have always said it

Yer but you'll need a bigger tank and more powerful gun if its very tight.

lol, yeah you are right there....... yours was tight !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was looking at the safari style ones on eBay. Around £135 if I remember correctly. I'll probably get one of those as I can't afford a real safari and I want the Landy to look respectable!

If you are going to buy one get a southdown one :)

I agree thats what i got and an unfinished on was about £139.00 inc p&p

and it stainless steel tube

oh yeah it dont come with a boot lace, it comes with a nice bracket for the Door Jam.....

I know I'm in the minority here, I too prefer the style of the Safari one.
The one in your link looks OK, but the top cannot swivel? I've noticed a lot of peeps when off roading have the top facing towards the rear.
Helps reduce dust / snow buildup? Maybe?????

I'm inclined to either save up for the one I want, or go with the Southdown one which is the same price as the one in the link.
Also would a cheaper plastic go brittle (UV rays?) and then be more prone to damage when playing?

Have not heard much about these, But at first looks it looks cheap, and its plastic, I notice that that it is molded in one piece, that leads me to the question that if you damage one part of it the whole thing needs replacing, How impact resistent is the plastic,

Also the head is fixed if you want to rotate the head for any reason you cant do it, one thing I have noticed, in heavy snow the front opening of it getting blocked with compact snow, so I rotated the head.

Looking how they are fixed as per a safari one it looks like you have to drill about 6 holes for the screws for fixing it, and one big one for the pipe to go through the wing, which means you have to remove the wing to do the job, the only hole you have to make with the southdown is one that can be one with out removing the wing, and you can thread the southdown flexi pipe thought the wing with out removing it.

Having another look at it, it looks like it would go into the side ot the Air box on a 300tdi so it means you got to modifiy that and bung up the front hole, saying that it would mean that there is room for a second battery if one is required so thats a bounus but that mod can be done with any snorkel with a bit of work.

Also its more expensive if you include the postage the the southdown. which I have got, if you want it black just use Fablon to cover it, any color can be used :D:D

or buy the top and bottom parts to make your own, just add the pipe you want,

Hey matt I am up now, the clocks have not mucked me up, lol

see you at 1 oclock mate.

Great and overly long chat today :D

Will try and purchase a snorkel tomorrow after I've paid tax for landy (£205 ), landy insurance, insurance on the van, allotment bill and mechanic for work on van........

Also a breather kit if the council are happy to wait another month for my allotment rent

I thought thta £205 was good for a 4x4, yeah the bills do add up.

Hey Matt & Big Stu,

Looking forward to maybe hooking up some time in the future for a bit of laning.

Stu - with reference to the lane I found in my other post, it was marked as a byway and didn't have any restriction notices - I also checked to see if it was on the SLROC list and was going to write to the guy at SCC mentioned on the SLROC site to check if there were any restrictions. It's not a very long byway and at the moment is rock-hard!

By the looks of this thread, you are the guys to chat to if it comes to parts (especially snorkels!! ). I already have a safari snorkel on my Disco 1 - as mentioned in a previous post - mine faces backwards - looks like the previous owner had an issue as the grill is damaged (later found in the air filter when we changed it!).

As you meantion that you are going to wright to the SCC, I take it tha lane was in Suffolk and not Essex, the SLROC pages will only cover Suffolk,

heres the suffolk Pages from SCC

http://www.suffolk.gov.uk/NR/rdonly...egulationOrdersaffectingpublicrightsofway.pdf

And the ECC

Public rights of way traffic regulation orders

Yeah we may be a good source of information for mods, between us we have done a few, lol, but not as many others have, lol.

One thing I do notice that you have no streering gaurd, or do you have HD Steering Rods?, so I would sugest you look at that and if you thinking about playin in any water then start to look at extending the breathers on the axels, gearbox, transfere box, ect.

As far as laning goes we have not had many trips lately, we have had a bit of a run on repairs for us all, :(. so have not been able to arange a group, for a while, no doubt we will soon., now the light stay for longer, i am wondering about a daylight trip out soon.......

I saw Matt today and he will be going to SLROC's next driving day, no doubt Geoff (wickford 90) and Nick (Discodad) will be there as will I, I suggest that you have a look at joining for def, its £30 for the first year membership, then a driving day is £10 per driver, (all drivers have to be members, it a great way to get the motor dirty, :D. Also the trials are fun as well.

Firstly - Is anyone up for laning on Thursday (evening 19:30 onwards).
Coggeshall braintree would be my choice as lots of lanes back to back.
Hope so its been ageeeeees

Matt your bumper, looks great!
I've been round the outlaws today building flat pack furniture:mad: but managed to get a few hours under the Landy.
Sliders fitted :D they use the same fixings as the side steps, so ground clearance, back as it was, but better them than the sills taking a pounding, which talking of, I took the protectors off and gave a good coating of rust inhibitor, not too bad I think!

No more water leak:D, but oil leaking form somewhere (nearside, onto axle)

Couldn't get 15mm bolts undone for the De-Cat:mad: gave up on that and tried to fit my breather kit, front diff completed then dropped the manifold and its wedged under washer bottle (now ordering a new one). I fitted a new air filter 3000 miles ago, so thought i would clear the dust out of it.
The airbox looks a bit like Matt's  strange how that waterline is so motivating when thinking about a snorkel, maybe time to go Mastercard bashing
OH and the windcsreen is fooked. Hoping to get done tomorrow via insurance (£70 excess  great).

the sliders look good nick, good news about the water leek,

give your exhust screws a good squirt for a few days then try again,

and a snorkel in the offing, i am going to have to get a moveon modding mine more or i'll get left behind

If you can't get the bolts undone, I've got a very special tool called an oxy gun :D :D Or you could just snap them off and drill through then fix with normal bolts and nuts.

Oh and nice mud line in your airbox....... mine is better though :D

Sliders look really good...... You know they won't stay like that for long!!

Laning could be ok for me but Braintree is nearly an hour from me. I could meet you at yours Nick for about 8:40pm in Maningtree as I am working up until 8

If that's no good then we'll have to knock it on the head until a weekend
