Hylogrip 2000 sealant. But there was clearly a gasket fitted as there are remnants. Do I need both?

a piece of ply cut in a circle and tap it in altering where you hit to steer it straightPerfect thats the gasket I have. Any tips on how to press the seal in as I don't have the overly expensive special tool
