listen bud, before you go fecking about with welding sets i think you should at least read a book on using welders.or maybe go to night school to get some experience.

I gave him the link to the mig welding forum gems, thats got some helpful tips on it although as you say night class would work better!

Youtube has some good tutorials too

ok,but like you said on another thread,it is better to get hands on experience rather than looking at pictures.

James and I did warn him about a cheap welder too :p

Just been looking on ebay for a TIG to play with and a snap on mig popped up, looked to have the same kind of power range and button layout as the one he has, 4 different settings and £90 opening bid………brand whores will be after that purely for the name rather than because its a good one!

Gaylander Mk1 comes to mind :D

I'll probably end up getting a second hand snap on tool chest tbh purely as they're designed well but wont be paying more than £100 for one given that it's just going to get scratched up.
On brand name stuff got a britool evt3000a torque wrench second hand for £30 (3% out after no calibration for years) rather than paying £70 for a new Teng one or £130 for a Norbar and it goes to show you're better shopping around for a good second hand item than buying new as well!
But every local garage swears on britool torque wrenches so they must be worth a shot and probably why they're so expensive new!

find a 180 amp miller/hobart(same company) or lincoln all about the same quality, and service

Theres a few hobart/butters/nbc/millers on ebay atm some single some three phase, was looking at them earlier

starting bid about £75 then 20% VAT on top but no bids yet, be worth it even if you need to buy a transformer for another £75
