ok so, how does this mod affect issurance...?

its an engine mod so I would have thought that as such will affect it.. but by how much..? anyone gone down this route or are you just keeping shtum..

Doop de dum de doo. . . . . . . . . . .

Replaced the EGR today. My 04 TD4 Auto has just under 56K on the clock and a full service history. I replaced the oil breather filter last weekend to. This is what I found when I took off the old ERG unit,

Amazing how much restriction to airflow there is - especially when compared to the straight thru pipe in the EGR replacement modification..

How does it feel to drive now?

Hi Mark'

Only done 200 miles since mod but so far there seems to be more power on pick up and less smoke so worth doing. When the warmer weather comes around I'll reomeve the inlet manifold and give that a clean as well.

Next mod will be a Synergy re-map unit.

Peter

Yep, I have the mod pipe ready to fit, but am waiting 'till warmer weather so I can clean all the manifold, pipes and intercooler.
Also shall do it after the next service in March when the Crankcase Delimiliter filter has been replaced so there's less chance of more gunk being thrown into the manifold past the Turbo.

That will also then be followed by a Roverron Unit.

Got a window regulator (or 2) to fix in the meantime.

Ah,

Sounds like frozen windows then Mark

Hope to get the synergy at the end of the month, just doing a few tanks of fuel first to see how it runs.

Peter

Also good to use Millers Diesel Additive to keep the fuel system clean.

I know to my great cost what happens when an injector fails and then can't be removed because of the carbon build up around the end - turned a £300 service into a £2,000 head off job !!!

Could have bought a complete 1800 petrol engine for that money !

Window regulators - had the nearside rear passenger one fail a year ago, don't use it so left it for another day.

That day has arrived,

Driver's window froze last week in the snow and I forgot to leave the button alone as I pulled up at a security barrier keypad.

Got it propped shut with a couple of bits of timber

I checked my 60k td4 today and the egr valve and manifold were covered in thick soft crud , so i just cleaned the entrance to manifold and cleaned the valve in a parts washer , the valve was not jamed open and was working so after a good clean i just replaced the valve :)
my options are
1-leave as is and clean again in maybe 2-3 years time .
2-leave original on and blank up exhaust port part with metal disk .
3-replace with the bypass .
what i can report though is it pulls better at low revs with just the clean out , so would recommend anybody with a td4 to clean the valve .

I went with option 2 - disc cut from a bean tin in the joint between the exhaust hose and the EGR .

Its been about 1000 miles since I cleaned the EGR valve and already it was starting to gum up again , So its now recleaned & blanked off :D

Just an update - with EGR blanked off , crankcase breather valve/filter replaced and millers 4 added to fuel Im getting an extra 2 mpg :)

Hi all, just cleaned the crud from the egr and have noticed that there was no vacuum in the hose on the bottom of the egr valve, turned off engine, gave the hose a little suck & blow job and hey presto vacuum, but after turning off again no vacuum, what is this hose connected to ? is it the egr actuator? there is a considerable difference when the hose is sucking proper, seems like another 50hp of low down torque,is this easy to change ? any help appreciated.

I did the EGR mod on mine at about 14k miles along with a Synergy II.

Had the MOT done last week, smoke test showed 0.41 p/mil against a limit of 1.5 p/mil so went through as a fast pass it was that good.

Very impressed.

Interesting. My standard TD4 at the last test was 0.31 and a fast pass.

I was just commenting that the fittment of either or both of the mods mentioned shouldnt adversly affect the MOT smoke test results that could be a concern for some folk contemplating the mods.

:D Not sure how you did the above or how anyone has missed the above quote!

Good to know the standard figures versus the modded figures. I myself run the Td4 auto with bypass & Roverron synergy & was expecting to have to switch off the Roverron come MOT time next month which would be a pain as I've located it inside the air filter. Now I'll leave it well alone as it should fly through.

With the EGR bypass & Millers additive I got about 3mpg improvement in fuel consumption though it worsened by 1mpg when the Roverron was fitted. I do use the performance though, so am delighted with it. Only tip I have is to use double the dose of Millers Powersport 4 additive to reap the power benefits, it really does make a difference.
