hi everyone,

i am trying to sort out my p38 on her bump stops atm.

i have downloaded the eas suite and have the lead for the connection under the glove box.

however i cant connect it to each other....the suite says that i should have a eas tools bar at the top....i only have eas setup, therefore not letting me configure the comm port from the drop down menu.

what am i doing wrong...i have installed the software and plugged the lead in and it automatically downloaded the driver.

i just dont get why it keeps coming up with *comms initialization failure - configure your comm port for the EAS tools menu*

Please any help would be greatly appreciated.

Its the correct lead and have looked through the instructions but doesnt say anything about not having the eas tools menu......

Click EAS setup you will get a drop down menu click comms to set comms port.

Have you done "setup" ? ....not clear from your message. Fisrt thing you should be getting is to accept the licence agreement : sounds like you haven't unloaded it yet.

sorry guys...might not be being clear enough...................

i have clicked 'i agree' to the policy statement and am now looking at the suite.

when i go on to the drop down menu and click comms....it doesnt matter which comm number i click on it keeps coming up with the same pop up.

'comms initialization failed. - configure your comm port from the drop down menu'

i keep going on to the menu but none of them work

where do i get that from?

i have installed everything that came on the discs

apart from one install says driver install failure,

however i thought that it wouldnt matter simply because it says it installs driver wen i plug the usb cable in.

this i getting so annoying.

the car picks up that something is attached so does the pc....just not the eas suite.

aaarrrggghhh!!!

With most usb devices that don't have drivers built in to the OS, you must install the driver *before* you first plug it in. Then when you do plug it in, it picks the right driver from the updated INF database.

Go to Device Manager, Hardware, Communication Ports, look what it is. It's probably Com3, if not, you can edit the properties and make it Com3. Then go to EAS Unlock and pick the matching Com port.

If you are running Win7, good luck as 99% of the time, the driver supplied on the disk with the cheap Chinese fake Prolific serial to USB adapter doesn't work. A bit of time on Google will find the right one. I do have it somewhere if you get stuck, but I can't remember where :)

Look in your computer and see which comms port has been apportioned to EAS unlock, if it is a newer system it may have 20 odd comms ports but EAS unlock will only have about 12. Set it to one within the spectrum of EASunlock manu.
