I had the bottom screen trim off and the pollen filter out before I remembered that the last job that i did was to replace the Hevac bulbs whilst I was in the dash fitting a dash cam.
HEVAC unit out, I'm an expert at that now, and yup, you guessed it, which plonker hadn't pushed the connectors fully home???

Thanks for all your help guys, it's wonderful to know that you're all out there, but for the moment I'm confident that the fault this time was the nut behind the steering wheel.

Refreshingly honest. :D

Looks like you get at it by dropping the glove box. Mine is the later one so have never played with the early version.

Thanks for your help but this was another area that confused me as mine is a late 2000 so i would have thought that it would have been the 'later' version in virtually everything.

Anyway, car back together so a quick wash and I'm off to do the fun bit - driving it.

Thanks again.

Well done Dogs top stuff we live and learn. No point in living if you don't learn something now and again. :):);)

Strange one that, mine is 1999 made late 1998 and has the sensor behind the grille. Think Land rover did these things to make life interesting. :D:D

Probably from BL days , use what youve got in the parts bin !

Bit of an anomaly that a 2000 model should have a sensor in a position discontinued in 1998 though. If that is indeed the case. Can't really see that, it's a different loom. Think Dogs has just missed it.
