Hello,

I'd be very grateful for any help/guidance with a non-starting X-reg Freelander Td4.

I connected up a code-reader to it today and it;s throwing three errors:

1260 - Pre-fuel pressure control
1612 - MIL lamp is on
1190 - Fuel rail pressure plausibility

From a bit of reading online, I've found that the 1260 code tends to imply a LP fuel-pump issue, but I've not found a good guide as to what the 1190 code means - is it related to the 1260 code or is it something different?

I'm planning on replacing the LP fuel pump and seeing if that solves the problem, but any suggestions or guidance before I spend any money would be very much appreciated,

Thanks for your help :)

Live data is more useful than codes.
Get some live data for fuel pressures, and post back. ;)

Hi,
Thanks for that.
It'll crank over, but it won't fire at all...will the live data show fuel pressure without the engine running?

Hi,
Thanks for that.

It'll show low fuel rail pressure, which needs to be over 300kPa, or it won't start.
The high fuel rail pressure should also be available while cranking, which needs to be over 15,000kPa, or again, it won't start.

That's really helpful to know, thanks for that.
I'll test it again and see what the story is.
Thanks for your help :)

Hello,

right - I've been back to this sick Freelander (it's not mine - it's at a a friends' place a few miles away) and the live data was something like this:

Not Cranking:
High Pressure - 0
Low Pressure - 98.2

Cranking:
High Pressure - 0
Low Pressure - 102.0~104.0(ish)

My scanner didn't give me the units, but presumably the pressures are in KPa.

So, to me, it looks like 98.2 is the "ambient" pressure and the LP pump is barely getting it above that - the high-pressure never reads above zero, which suggests to me that either the pressure at the HP sensor is too low for it to register (presumably because it's rated for several MPa), there's no fuel actually getting to the sensor, the sensor is dead or something nastier is going on...

Any thoughts would be gratefully received,

Thanks :)

If the LP is under 250kPa, then the EDC will inhibit starting, as low pressure will cause damage to the HP pump.
Looks like you'll need at leas one new LP pump (there are 2), and replace the filter too.

Hi,
thanks very much for your help with this.
I've read that there's a LP pump in/behind the O/S rear wheel-well, but I've also read the two LP pumps are in the tank and in the engine bay - does the location depend on the year?
Is there a way of telling which LP pump has failed or is it best to just replace both?
Thanks :)
