Just got my old 177,500 mile 51 plate td4 back after a deal with a motor trader, for a 2003 td4 Kalahari. Vibration through the transmission. Turned out to be a knackered flywheel diagnosed by some landrover experts! the ones that have proper grease under there fingernails not the guessing wannabes we usually find.
The motor trader was reluctant to refund me the money, said he had never heard of freelanders having fylwheel problems in the.......sit down everyone before you **** yourselves laughing......5 years he has been selling them!!!
Mmmmm why do they do conversion kits then if they "Never break down"????

love the look of mine but beginning to think i might have bought a not too well looked after one so will just have tp put up with the probs when they come up. allways wanted a range rover but not the running costs. first day i got it i had a hundred mile round trip in torentional rain and wind on the m5 and it didnt miss a beat and 0 leaks so cant be all bad although im def thinking of converting it to 2 wheel drive as this seems to sort a few of the prop shaft probs. im so pleased they kept the targa roof off the 220 turbo rover and cant wait till we actually get some sun. i like air con but love the wind in the little hair i have left.

not sure if anyones mentioned this but the srs light being on will be an mot fail next year. mine was on on my beemer before i chopped it in on my f.l as i had put an m3 steering wheel on and didnt have the tool to recode and switch the light off and the guy said there are new rules coming in next year and any lights coming on the dash. ie: srs will now be a fail. its got a lot of the guys on the beemer forum going nuts as the beemer run flats show up as a fault light on the dash if you swap them for winter tyres. lol

I really do like mine..i got an 2002 3dr serengeti 1.8 with under 80k and good history..in 3000 miles its used no water (no really..)hasnt really given me any problems and is good on fuel.
Im amazed hoe little money money the petrol 1.8's can be had for..cant think of anything else that size for the money.
you need to be clued up before purchase and have a bit of a clue what your doing but its so much better than the amazingley flawed td5 dscovery it replaced. cost a lot less to but too!
i'd replace mine with a td4 if money wasnt an issue..but then im not sure the difference in cost is worth it. hse would be nice...

We have a 1999 XEDi model, and it is a really comfortable, fun car to drive. The engine mates to the manual gearbox really well and has heaps of torque. It's also incredibly fuel efficient. While we have had no problems with the engine, there have been a couple of issues with other aspects of the vehicle.
Overall though, a really practical and fun car to own.

Okay, so it's only 4 months old today, but it's done over 12,500 miles and it just works! One minor problem at about 1,000 miles where the Climate Control's software needed to be reloaded (the heater forgot there was a cold setting!) but, other than that, it's been perfect. No bother at all
Would I change anything? Yes, just one thing, the seats; they're not the seats of choice for a 4 or 500 mile journey, they are too small and too firm Give me the seats from the Evoque (but nothing else, thank you very much) and I'd be a very happy bunny

Mine was brought to replace a dead 110, not a happy situation, but a 4x4 was needed, and the FL was cheap enough.
The plan was to keep it whilst I sourced a new Defender....2 years later, the FL has been good, well behaved!
Can't complain about it really it's never let me down ...till now.
The wife loves it, well she is tiny, and the 110 was old and big... smelly... loud... slow... heavy...it was great!
I'd get one for her, she would have another, I'm not so sure, maybe a 90"

I remember when I was young you didnt get "trouble free motoring".
Every car needed regular maintenance.
Then along came the Japanese.
Owning a Freelander reminds me of my youth. I have to get my hands dirty again. I have to plan maintenance of it into my life. But that creates a bond between and my hippo.
I love it.
Modern cars are like my washing machine. It just works. Day in, day out. And unless something goes spectacularly wrong rarely do i even notice it.
So its a simple choice really. Drive a washing machine or drive a Landrover.

I like my 2002 Td4 very much.
The only thing I can moan about is, the next-to-previous owner who piled lots of miles on it and cut corners with the servicing - virtually no service history by competant mechanics, as it is beginning to demostrate, and now I'm paying the penalty and the price of getting things done correctly and building some sort of Service Record!
But, it rewards me with sure footed handling and a spirited drive - it's no Bugatti Veyron - but, it'll pull strongly in the torque window enough to frighten Fords, Saxo's, Renaults and other such metal.
Mine's an ES with leather and is very plush, so apart from gentle green lane-ing, it won't probably ever go TOO far 'off-road'
(Money permitting I'd still like a Defender 90 too!)

Do we regret buying it? Not Yet....
Had it a month and it does what we hoped it would- it's a cheap car for the A1 and capable of going into and getting out of fields...
If we'd wanted a mud plugger we'd have bought another 90 or Disco but as a glorified car the FL Td4 seems to fit the bill (so far.... watch this space)
