Cheers discodave, have the photos gone from the thread? If so where abouts?

If you need more I will post some.

As time goes on I am posting each bit of the build on my website in the order that they are done. Along with any videos.

I do need to catch up on this but it is useful for quick reference.

Hey bud i did find a few missing pictures around the mid 80's of pages

Too late now :D only joking, cheers for the fix will go back a catch up on what i missed :D

You lot have got me hooked on 'ere! Although helped a chap today and saved him from ripping his dash board out and all sorts for the sake of disconnecting the battery for 30seconds! Nice feeling!

It is nice to help people and especially if they are appreciative. It balances my life out as normally I'm a complete bastard lol..... Ask my step kids lol

where is the most recent picture of your rear bumper mate, this is something im getting sorted in the next week or so as pulling old off anyway hate doing things twice n all that :D

I am seriously thinking about buying the normal heavy duty rear bumper and adding a few reinforcements.
Land Rover Discovery 1 Heavy Duty Rear Bumper | eBay

Has anyone tested these?

I've got one of they type of bumpers and the look very nice and thats about it not all that heavy duty really imo

What are they made out of thickness wise ?

I'm using 4 or 5mm box cant remember off the top of my head so just wondering how much heftier I'm going

This is a one piece rear bumper manufactured from 5mm steel with incorporated steel end caps
This has the provision for a nato hitch or recovery point in the centre of the bumper

Fits onto the standard mounting points as well as the towbar mounts for extra strength

Ahh didn't scroll that far down just looked at the pics, doubt it's that great though looking at the latest reply!

Go to your local metal workers and get them to fab something solid up

Has yours already recieved damage if so how much did it take to cause it?

If it took a fair bit then im not too botherd as id rather that damaged than the chassis if moderate effort then with minor reinforcements it will be fine? or with little effort... its crap?

5mm plate, but the problem is the mounting points are too far into the centre of the chassis doing it in box really won't be much stronger if at all,
it needs bracing further out towards the ends

all in imho

Get ya point matt, have been thinking of a brace to be made from rear bumper over arch and onto back of rock sliders any thoughts?

its not crap but it did bend far too easy imo when i dropped off a ledge and the os corner lifted about 100mm

as and when i can be arsed I will mod it/ strengthen it up a bit wit a bit of box off the chassis to the ends of the bumper

The way I'm working is box welded onto mounts, spread plate between mounts with the hitch bolting onto that, mounted back onto tow points with thick plate and then theres just the side pieces

I like the look of the heavy duty bumpers but they bend too much too soon IMO. I prefer heavy metal all round. If I'm gonna hit something then I want a piece of it.....

Mines not pretty but it has beauty in its ugliness and both front and rear are stronger than most on the market.

I will finish my rear one off with stronger mounts in the centre to take the hitch and outriggers to the chassis to aid in quarter panel support.

Within the last 5000 views to reach the magic 100,000 views. Apart from one other post started in 2005 (102k, views) this is a record on landyzone ...........

I might have to start a new thread...
