Nowt to do with Land Rovers, but this is a true story. Way back in the 80s I worked for a Lada garage (well! someone had to!) An old bloke bought a new Lada 1200, he had walking difficulties and his left leg seemed to be locked solid.
He collected his new car one Monday morning, and we recovered it about two hours later with a burnt out clutch, the car had done less than fifty miles, and that included the PDI road test. The flywheel and pressure plate were blue from heat and the center plate was destroyed. Suspecting driver error I asked the old boy to have a go in one of our courtesy cars, a Lada 1200, this is no word of a lie, due to his leg problem he just stuck the car in top gear and floored the throttle and slipped the clutch instead of changing gears.
I stopped him at once and suggested he was driving the car wrong, he admitted that his old car had gone the same way and thought a new car would be better.
So!! back to the original question, how long does a clutch last?????????
