Hi everyone, first time posting.

Bit of bad luck, I have 2012 d4 (91k miles) which had 2 year warranty from LR until 2 months ago and I didnt extend as not really had any issues. It was due service just before warranty expired (big one as well) so I took a conscious decision to service it at my local independent specialising in LR ( Whites Auto Services in Edinburgh). Until then it was full main dealer services.

Very recently started getting restricted performance error and upon investigating by Whites they told me its drivers side top manifold is cracked and leaking boost. Having had a look online it is quite common and there is TSB stating that original part was not manufactured to specification (LR admitting faulty part!!).

Now I have been quoted 700 for one and 1100 for two at local independent as its about 10hrs labour for two. Quotes from LR I have read other people received were 2k+...

I want to explore an options of asking LR to cover full or part of the cost since they admitted part is not up to specification and car has been under warranty until recently. They are however stating I would need to first pay 150 for diagnosis before my dealer would ask headoffice if LR would be willing to contribute at all.

In your experience how likely it is that LR would cover the cost considering circumstances? Paying 150 just to hear point blank "no can do" is sort of a waste of money.

Or should I just bite the bullet and have them replaced by indy?

Just go to LRs customer service direct, your Main Dealer should be sympathetic as they will will be doing the replacement work... won’t they? therefore they will provide the direct line number into customer service.
Your halfway there, if as u say the issue is a known fault, I expect you’ll have to pay some thing, but vehicle manufacturers will usually pick up the bill for the parts and part of the main dealers labour.

I been there with my wife’s Honda 6 years ago which had a full Honda service record, it had a gearbox fault and was just out of its 4 year warranty, it was a known fault with that model year, so after I called Honda... they were quite willing to contribute, with “ you wish us to help with the repair costs”. Err yes, so Honda picked up the bill for parts and labour, my bit was just £148.00.

I know what u mean about about extended warranty, l extended the warranty each year for 3 years with my RR and never had any warranty issues, and same for 3 years with the disco, but then I did claim for a leaking diff pinion oil seal, taken the cost of the warranty, that was a £2100 oil seal... later on in my discos life I had to replace the seal again.
With newer cars that I owned an own I still go for the 4 year warranty option, but haven’t had to make a claim, much the same with other insurance policy’s I have. Peace of Mind:)

Give it some time for replies. Most members aren’t on here every day.

You might also find it helpful to post in the discovery section so that those with a discovery are more likely to see it.

just to follow up on this - I decided against paying £150 to dealer to "diagnose" the problem again after speaking to Land Rover CS directly who told me based on the mileage of the car, age and the fact that its no longer in warranty they'd be unlikely to contribute to the cost of the repair (sort of expected that but still shocking that something that should be a recall in the first place is not addressed free of charge). So car is booked in locally to a specialist for inlet manifold replacement - I'm doing one just now and will do another one when it gives way eventually - hopefully not for another year or so at which point I'll reconsider options again.

When it's out of warranty it is just that. When the owner keeps up the warranty they are more sympathetic if the item isn't covered. Eggspecially if yer has had a number of LR vehicles and show potential ter continue... based ont track record of buying. Sometimes they will cover or partially cover the cost.

Warranty claims are based ont main dealer diagnosis and main dealer requesting the claim on yer behalf. That is the only way it's done. Customer service won't help as they have not diagnosed the fault or seen the car.

In yer case you have moved away from main dealer servicing. Yer also need ter remember yer has enjoyed 91k miles of driving or at least yer vehicle has. It's an eggspensive vehicle ter buy because it has eggspensive parts. The chance of them covering the cost is low ter none.
