I replaced the tailgate window seal today - never again.

I thought it would be just a bit more difficult than the seal on the 1/4 panels, I was wrong. It was very frustrating.

Old seal - particularly bad in the top corners.

Stanley blade to cut around the seal to release the glass.

Cleaned up the glass and the window frame on the tailgate.

Put the new seal on, taping it around as I went to aid with initially putting it on.

and a big gap in photos where I was putting the window back in - but the window finally back in with the new seal.

I then tinted the rear window - it isn't perfect but it's good enough.

and removed the rear LED lamp that was wired into reverse.

This is currently how it stands, still need to fit the wing.

Went out for a drive yesterday and there was a knocking noise from under the car - pulled over and quickly discovered it was the prop making contact with a bracket that holds on my steering arm guard.

You can see where it was making contact on the edge -

So the grinder came out to make a small adjustment -

Now there is plenty of clearance -

I got round to fitting the wing too.

I actually took a bit more off than this but didn't take a picture.

Really good progress Foz, keep the updates coming even if people don't respond - I know I'm guilty of that but enjoy reading updates like this.

Yep, me too. I seem to have snag after snag with mine at the minute, and it's good to see someone able to get a move on with theirs.

Cheers guys.

I don't mind if no one responds - It's nice for me to look back on what I've done so far.

It might even give someone inspiration/motivation to give stuff a go themselves, and maybe I'll be able to help answer their questions if they have any.

I think you'll find peeps are watching this thread without commenting, take a look at the views, over 3000 so there is no lack of interest, maybe it's out of respect cause it's your project thread.

I kept getting little puddles in my footwells when it rained, after some investigation it appeared that the problem was the seal around the top of the windscreen - there was no adhesive left so it wasn't water tight.

So I put loads of sealant around the seal to hopefully rectify the problem.

I painted the chequer plate on the other side of the car black.

The boot floor that I had put it came powder coated in black, and this has started to flake off - so I need to paint it.

So I decided to remove all of the interior, repair any holes and paint the floor. I'm currently only at the "remove all of the interior" stage.

A couple of pictures of how the exterior is looking - front bumpers are over-rated... ;)

I've decided to get the front bumper modified rather than having some brackets made up - seems like the proper way to do it.

I haven't decided what I'm going to do with the rear bumper yet.

Only a small update

After spending a lot of time cleaning the boot floor, and the floor I made a start on painting.

I went for Johnstones black paint rather than Hammerite, simply because it was cheaper - Almost half the price.

It's very gloss, I might need to make it a bit matte somehow - i'll see how it dries.

You chose well - Hammerite is a shadow of what it used to be. It's not very much fun to paint with and it's horrible to clean up - and not worth the effort because it's so soft now.

Haven't had time to work on the Disco recently.

I've dropped off the front bumper to be modified to suit the 2 inch body lift, and to be painted. I'll be picking it up next weekend. I also dropped off the drop plate for my tank guard to be modified to a better angle.

I bought myself a hilift jack, and a mount - I think i'm going to mount it on the floor behind the front seats.

I removed some rust from the floor, which has created some holes. So I'm planning on getting those plated up before I continue painting the floor.

I also made a start on tidying up the front seat mounts. As they were particularly muddy, and have a fair bit of surface rust.

Just wanted to say this is awesome.

I've just bought our first disco for my mrs to use (What happens when you get a little click happy on Flea bay!) and will be following a lot of the stuff you have done on here.

Thank you for posting all this stuff, I'm watching with interest!

Thanks - I'm glad you're finding this of interest :)

---------------------------------------------------------------------

Whilst the front bumper was off, and as I'm due to get it back soon I removed the steering guard, cleaned it up and painted it.

Yellow, of course, to match the tank guard :)

I also had the oil I ordered turn up, ready for the weekend.

10w40 for the engine
MTF94 for the gearbox
EP80w90 for the transfer box and diffs

Slaving away on your pride and joy like you do must be thirsty work, huh?....photo of all the lubes for your motor and for yourself..:D

I changed most of the oils today, engine, diffs, and transfer box all done. Still gearbox oil left to do.

8CW5K7f.jpg

So, I understand that the transfer box takes just over 2 litres of oil - I realised something had gone wrong once i noticed i had used 4 litres...

Like an idiot i was filling through the wrong hole - So hopefully to help anyone else avoid this mistake:

This is the wrong hole

This is the right one!

I've drained the excess oil and it's all good now.

I picked up the bumper today too, 2 inches higher and painted in black.

I've made a start to fitting the steering guard, but it was always a tight fit and it's a pain to get back on.

PqNaj2j.jpg

The drop plate for my tank guard if finished too. Bent to the correct angle and brace fitted.

I've been wanting some new tyres for a while, since mine were 8 years old and they don't hold air too well.

I found a set of 33x12.50x15 with steel wheels for a reasonable price and picked them up today.

l6tdiTh.jpg

I removed my wheel spacers since these new wheels have a larger offset, and in the process I had to sacrifice one of my breaker bars...

New pads too.
