If you have a vertical mill. decided it was cheaper to get it done than aquire tha parts,
DO THIS
Buy a good block on Ebay or Heathy and get that converted, then swap them

I would go for last of the D2 it drives okay easy to work on and parts are cheap, and a real classic, it is just the rust

I would go for a d3, d2s are more trustworthy but unfortunately you will really struggle to find a solid one which starts on the button

I have just replaced my serviceable TD5 Torque Converter with a larger one refurbished by Ashcroft Transmissions to cope with my tuned engine.
£100 and it's yours.

Good D2s are out there. It took a while but I found one with a sound chassis which starts first touch.

Just take your time, don't assume that price necessarily equates to quality (there are both expensive horrors and decent bargains out there), and think about what aspects are essential to you, what are merely desirable and therefore where you can compromise. I began by just looking at D2s that met all of my desirable criteria and could not find a solid one no matter how expensive they were. Once I decided to compromise and look at autos and alternative colours my search widened and eventually I got lucky; and yes the chassis is very solid and it starts first turn.

Ahh, big bill then.
Apparently about 1500 quid but I suppose that depends on what else they find whilst they are in there, still its of no immediate concern and Im debating whether to chuck it in and get a newer one, part of me says get rid, other part says fix it as its a good car, maybe early next year!
