i know this sounds daft but should i be driving on road with the little lever in neutral as ive never drove 4*4 before .

just a thouught,
when buying a perminant 4*4 vehicle did you not think it a good idea to do some research on how a landrover 4*4 system works? or did you buy it cos it was snowing and it looks cool?

o and btw search and ye shall find funnily enough your not the only person to look daft :)

wanted one for ages cos they look cool and like big cars drove it home put it on drive then when i went to put it in revers it wouldn't move till i pulled the little stick back PS i can hear you all laughing at me

Just a quick note ... none of the above is applicable to the extremely camp 2wd Gaylander as this isn't blessed with anything remotely to do with off road capability! ... Come to think of it nor is a 4wd Gaylander :p

When you asked how to drive a 4x4 in the' introduce yourself section' i was only joking ya know!

we are laughing but u shud expect it :)
im feeling nice tonight here you go print it off a stick it on ur dashboard :)

top right = Lo Range
top left = Lo Range + Diff Lock

middle = neutral (no drive)

bottom right = Hi Range (normal driving)
bottom left = Hi Range + Diff Lock

haha no worries we all have to start somewhere

btw dont use diff lock in either ratio on any ground that isnt a loss surface as a minmu gravel but ideally sand, mud, water etc

basically dnt use difflock unless offroading and u think you may loose traction.

this is a very simple explanation and you should do some research before playing with he little lever and dnt blame me for anything you break :)

:D i would never lie to a member of LZ that brings so much useful information :D

dont you mean harmless entertainment?

ps OP Welcome to LZ, please develop a thick skin real quick, then you'll realise most of what is said can be taken with a bucket of salt.

first off use google to find and download the insruction book for whatever vehicle it is youve got.... that will answere a lot of the basic questions, a haynes manual from ebay will sort out a lot more.
