Here is a pic of mine. You can see there is one light in the middle of the roof and another just left of the gearstick knob. The one on the roof has a switch on it but doesn't work. The one at the front has no switch so I'm not sure how it's even supposed to turn on...

If neither are original I might just rip them out.

They did come with interior lights as an option. One on the dash is not original iirc though the one at the roof may be. It's a handy thing to have,so why not fix them?

The roof mounted interior light on your vehicle is not original, it could be specked as a factory option and this was operated from a dash mounted rocker switch. More commonly seen on the station wagon versions

Series 3 station wagon interior light is smallish rectangular glass one, about the size of the one on the dash but more seventies looking.

Yes I have an interior light on top of the windscreen which I think is original but I'm not sure, its a rectangular glass jobby with a chrome finish surround. I'm not sure if original though

i saw a video on youtube of someone that made there own interior light, they put a brake light switch on the side of the dash at a certain point so when you open your door the light comes on. quite a clever idea i thought :p

My 82 wagon has one, it works off a dash switch and switches itself off automatically when the headlights are on. Very advanced for 1982.....

I have fitted a couple of the stick on under a cupboard type LED ones that work when the lens is pressed. Very cheap and effective fitted under the bottom of the dash and give a good light.
