Have come into possession of what I am told by the prior owner is a "pre series 1 prototype" that was part of a run of only 48 made with an 80inch wheelbase.

I don't really know what these numbers mean, or if the 48 number, or the 80inch wheelbase, or its prototype status is really true, or if this is all made up. The source of the information is not of sound mind anymore unfortunately and i'm not sure if I can rely on what i'm told. But he is adamant about the numbers and that its a very rare/important vehicle.

It is, as you can see, totally trashed, complete with tree growing through its rusty body.

So time to ask some people who would know!

Images all here: So I found a landrover - Imgur

Its a gallery, just keep clicking next.

It doesn't look like much to me, but I'll let you guys decide.

Its broke in half ...and if those are your hands in pic 4 then i know a good surgeon.

the Pre production S1's of which there were only 48 made, were originall LH drive and were changed back to RH drive by Landrover.

I doubt yours is one of them as the lights were behind the wire mesh grill & it didn't have cut outs for the headlamps.

This is the most famous one,

No it was the pre production that had a run of 48. I think this is just a 80 inch series 1

I think the first pre production run were based on a Jeep chassis.

You are thinking of the centre-steer prototype, which had a Jeep chassis (and most of the running gear too I think). The 48 pre-production vehicles had Land-Rovers own type chassis, but galvanised rather than painted.

Actually some were built RHD when new.

The really, really first ones, five I think, had a Rolls Royce B40 engine, I don't think it's one of those either

A shame it's so bad, poor little landy :(
