Its a bloody nightmare of a fault I stripped my motor down unplugged each ecu individually with no luck getting comms back, 3 autoelectricians later, I gave up, I replaced lcm and clocks no luck, my cure was simple I needed to reset the fault codes in my air suspension unit (hard fault) other than that everything was perfect I simply removed air suspension unit plugged the unit into another 4.4 reset the faults and plugged it back in still running perfect now, but same as you I can only read engine and gearbox via kline the can sytem for all other units is down.

Ah, HID exploding and frying communication has been seen before. @Saint.V8 question!

This is Saint's thread :)
:D Haha yeah I realised it was fairly common when I read this thread :p

Thanks for this... Very interesting given the last time I read codes was after a dead battery, and all codes bar an "ECU Fault" (or something along those lines) on the EAS cleared. I will try to plug the EAS ECU into another L322 and see what happens...

Ahh, sorry, I mis-read this.

I thought you meant that having re-set your EAS ECU everything now worked - but I see now you mean you are in the same position as me! :(

Hopefully we'll find an answer soon...

Hello Friends I have found the solution for this problem on My 2003 l322 HSE. I first had the front right bulb come on sometimes with the switch and sometimes not. Then it stopped coming on completely and so went the "Fault in communication with ECU" I started pulling all the ecus one by one and finally ended under the steering wheel when I unplugged the "Steering Angle Sensor" and that is still my problem until I get it replaced but I can unplug it to reset the rest of my faults then plug it back in

Top man, registering with the forum just to post the answer to a very difficult problem, that is that special relationship i have heard so much about :)

Thanks for this very helpful info!

I can confirm that the issue for me is also the Steering Angle Sensor. I have full communications / diagnostics / reset facilities whilst it is unplugged. I have a new sensor on order so will post to confirm whether I have comms once it's replaced.

Thanks again for the help!

Hi Guys I solved mine unfortunately not something that will probably help anybody, 2 auto electricians 2 LR specialists later and a whole load of time myself, took to a real good auto electrician who knew his stuff embarrasingly 5 minutes fixed, can wire from obd had been chopped up and butchered by the LPG guy who then hid it in the loom tape went to pin 1 of the dash instant can comms again with can fault but will chase the broken wire when I have time.

Hi Ben Holmes
This was very helpfull. A LR workshop has pulled hair out of their heads, in weeks (so have I)
And after sending your text to the guys, they reported “failure found”
A new Steering angle sensor solved the problem.
Thanks for posting your experience.......

I am a 2004 HSE owner in North America and I wanted to throw in my hat to the conversation as well. I developed identical problems to what Saint.V8 experienced; blown (literally blown up glass) front right HID bulb and soon-after no communication connectivity on the K Bus with my All Comms. I immediately and very ignorantly dismissed any notion that the Steering Angle Sensor (SAS) could be bad because I had replaced it 2 years ago with a brand new BMW unit (while the Land Rover part# is SRO105071, the LR SAS is actually a BMW 37146793632 and is used in numerous X3 and X5 trim levels from 2000-2003).

Well, after replacing every fuse in the car and disconnecting multiple ECUs, lights, and fuses in an effort to determine why I could not connect, I finally gave in and disconnected the SAS. Instantly, I could reconnect to ECUs on the K bus. Another tell tale sign of a failing/bad SAS is the HDC, ABS, and Traction Control lights all lighting up and going into fault mode randomly. Disconnecting the SAS allowing me to interrogate all ECUs and reset my Air Suspenion soft fault.

So, if you have any issues with ABS, HDC, and Traction control all lighting up, the #1 thing to check should be the SAS. Just disconnecting it should reallow K Bus connectivity. Doing that in conjunction with disconnecting the front headlights should give anyone a very high chance of regaining K Bus comms.

I learned a lot from you all reading through this thread, so thank you!

Despite all this, I still love my Range Rover and am about to buy a second 2004 HSE!

Glad to see someone found a solution for them but unfortunately I'm still having connection problems with my allcomms, with error just showing and Tx and Rx flashing repeatedly.

I'be disconnected the steering angle sensor as listed above (I assume it's just the one lead), hdc inactive comes up etc but still the same. I've also had the same problem as the person who found the fix where one of my hid's sometimes won't come on on first try. It sometimes needs turning off and on for it to work. I've disconnected the igniter from the bulbs when trying the all comms too (dipped beam only) and still having error when connected.

If anyone has any further advice it'd be greatly appreciated. Car is currently beached on my drive as a height sensor failed. I replaced it and with having problems clearing the suspension Ecu fault, the same airbag has deflated and now it wouldn't be safe to drive to a garage. Even if I got it there I'm worried their diagnostics system won't be able to clear it.

Thanks in advance

Not played with Allcomms but on 4Dcan I had to get the baud rate right before it would communicate. Think it was something like 11,200 to work.
