Hi everyone newbie hear. my landy will be up and running in the next week once I get the logs in I will be off on a few free evening to a few local ish lanes around the Liskeard area. let drop me a pm if you guys are planning anything or fancy popping along.

Hi Jess........sorry decided to shorten the last bit , to nothing :D there will hopefully be some laning going on up your way soon , we have a few routes in mid Cornwall and hopefully a pub meet up your way in the not too distant. It's always great to meet newbies via a pub meet and a pint ...so watch this space and we'll be sure to PM you when we're coming up your way.:)
 
Thought I'd give you guys an update:
Halfway through scrubbing the underneath clean. Very little serious rust going on that needs immediate welding. The front jacking lifts are a bit crappy but nothing major. I've had the dashboard off and sorted out a few things under there. Mostly WD-40 on lever joints :p but I need to wire up the fans before the winter. I managed to get a job so I can pay for replacement parts soon :D

So a good waxoyl and new tyres over the next month or so, and then I'll be up for some lanes :) But im sure the to-do list will get much bigger as I find other problems

Hi Tripp , good to hear things are looking fairly solid under there!:) mind you , she did seem a solid straight vehicle from the outside. So you got a job eh :scratching_chin:.....given up being a student ....to fund your rolling repairs..:D

Nice to see you again, Tripp :) Read up a bit before waxoyling, there are others too! imo dinitrol is much better for inside the chassis. The jack outriggers can be bought and welded in if they get very bad. I thought your motor mostly just wanted tidying, really, didn't seem to be too many huge issues with it. Glad to hear that seems to be the case. Catch up with you soon!

I read somewhere that waxoyl is cheaper and more suitable for a "crappy job" and as its my first go, I expect it will be really crappy :p Then next summer I can clean it all of again and do a proper job at it with dinitrol or another more suitable treatment.

I'll try and make the next local-ish pub meet up!

I order dinitrol cheaper than waxoyl off the net. And if you aren't experienced you may struggle to apply waxoyl, it really needs to be heated to even get out of a sprayer. Some thin with white spirit, but of course that reduces application thickness.
 
Thought it was worth a mention but I have always mixed wax oil with old gear oil for the inside of the chassis and used tetra under seal for the outside of the chassis. treated my old mans 96 disco years back and the boot floor and chassis is still original and 100% solid.

I have used used gear oil inside chassis too, it is quite good. But with a vehicle I was intending to keep long term I would use dinitrol. Under seal can be good, but most people don't get clean enough first, so the rust continues underneath.

I will be interested to hear how you get on with that, I think you will be pleased. I have only used the ml3125, as I paint the outside of the chassis, but I really like it. I find it is worth browsing the website from time to time, they sometimes have special offers, last time I bought 12x1litre tins, for some reason lots cheaper than the larger sizes per unit cost :confused:

A mate says he has bought the stuff from a private seller on ebay for less than rejel actually sell it. Not sure how that works either, but he is usually to be trusted on such matters.

Like I said, check the website for specials ;) Pretty sure ml3125 was about 7.95 litre last time. And you don't really need the sprayer thingy, an old garden sprayer will do :)
 
A little bit of recce-ing done this arvo ...one lane at Wheal Rose that Mart said turned into a footpath was kinda right , the farmer had cut the hedges back as far as he needed to get to his fields , then the remaining path had just grown over to a single track ..we took the bow saw and loppers to it , but its still tight and very scratchy at the last bit , only due to brambles , but with a bit of trimming back , it's passable , Betsy took a bit of a hit scratch wise ..:(


Then down to Porthtowan , the eastern side BOAT is a dead end, some knob had dumped tyres in the lane , we got there just as another driver and two walkers were clearing them off the path , but anyway tis a dead end , the western side on the other hand is a lovely cliff top lane down into PT , says unsuitable for motors , but is defo a boat , bit axle twisty , but the view is superb.




so will have to amend the route on some sections , get the lane cleared out a bit more at Wheal Rose , then take a good look at the middle section Poldice Etc ...we have got several options along that stretch , so shouldn't be too diffecult to find a way through.

Did you go through the ghetto? In Porthtampon, at the bottom of the byway that leads down from Towan Cross.
 
If you mean the eastern side then yes ...the two walkers were saying that local residents got hacked off as gypsies moved in , they've had no end of trouble getting them shifted , but he was saying it is a vehicular RoW , but it's dead end ...Ian was very impressed when I was explaining to the chap about GLASS:D the other side does a loop round and comes down into PT , which will give our visitors a piddle stop , we could stop on the cliff top for lunch , depending on how long it takes to do the first bits , then we would be ideally placed to head back to Chivvy and on to GH ?

Bit kind to describe the ghetto as gypsies. Pack of drug addicted new age travellers is probably nearer the mark. It never used to be a dead end, I used to drive right between the chalets and benders and on up. Maybe times have changed.
 
Well done I didn't venture in to the undergrowth with the land rover i walked on foot glad to hear it could of been cut back looking forward to the trip now

It's pretty tight at the end where the house is ...just gotta make sure we don't total their garden fence - it's tight!
I'll do some digging on GLASS see if it's ok to use a Stihl petrol hedge trimmer.
