As a short term measure to get my new project (1994 Defender 90) to fit in my garage, I need to change the Britpart +2" springs it came with back to standard. It is at my folks house just now, but once the welding is done i would like to get it home.

I can get hold of some Classic Range Rover springs from a scrapper, but have no idea if they will work.

Or otherwise, standard springs dont seem too dear from Paddock, but will these bottom out and wreck the +2" Britpart Gas shocks if I leave them on for a bit.

Cheers

You could use spring compressors if your not going to drive it, save you the grief of changing springs over a few times.

In answer to your q's

To store it in a garage you can remove the springs all together asking as the bump stops are present and correct assume you will need to Rebush the buses tho.

Range rover classic springs will fit but may not help they can be quite tall free height.

If shocks are genuine plus 2's on original mounts they should not top out before the axle hits the bump stops if they do you have more issues

Great, thanks for that. I will make a plan once the engine is in and see how much it needs to go down. I don't really need the suspension lift but I can put it standard for a while and keep the springs to go back on later.

As has been said just remove springs, get some chunky blocks of wood to put in for now and this will take the weight of the body on the chassis instead of all on the bumpstops, you can then just refit aftwards. You may find just removing the rears will give you enough room...

Yes, think I will abandon the rangie springs and just get some new 90 springs for the time being. The raised springs can go back on later. Nearly finished all the welding, can't find the clutch push rod anywhere though, but may not have come with the car, another order to paddocks then!

Yes good call. At least that will give me chance to try it out with the current suspension setup. Ta

Bit of an update.

The Fender is almost fully back together and even with the weight of the engine etc back in it really hasn't gone down much

I did a search and found one post mention that his Bearmach HD standard height springs gave him a height from wheel centre to bottom of arch of 480mm, I can't find any other posts confirming this measurement. Just measured mine and the average wheel centre to arch lip is 550mm, so I am guessing its has a 2 or 3" lift. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1357342307.647740.jpg

Anybody confirm?

Then again it also depends if his arches were standard, large, if his were a different brand, bad batch etc etc variable yadayadayada

Righto.

Sorry guys but I am on the scrounge. Can anybody who has a standard height 90, please measure the wheel centre up to the arch, and confirm the measurement?

As I said in a previous post mine is 550mm all round and I just want an approximate measure.

Waiting for pay day and then either getting smaller tyres or standard springs on order once I have figured it out.

Cheers

Had a set of Range Rover Alloys with tyres coming my way off a mate, the wheels have arrived but he needed the tyres at the last minute. So back to square 1.

Unless I put them on it that would make it low!

No big bother summit will turn up. All the landy owners are hiding over here, lost touch with them or they now have kids and people carriers.

Depending on what axles you have you may find the alloys don't fit the front hubs drive member sometimes hits the alloy not allowing it to sit back against the hub face
