I mite have it wrong, but my understanding was that the low box ratios were the same in both defender and disco

Sorry if my post was misleading in relation to gearing.

Of course there is the option in the Discovery, of moving off in low range, and then putting it into high once you,re going, ( I dont like doing it ! ) but thats the beauty of having different models in the range, the Defender is great at this.

you can of course put def t.box in disco 1 or 2 which is something i often do for farmers who are after towing ability not motorway speed

Ok, as most of you know i own a 2003 freelander and am wanting to upgrade to something that can with stand alot more 'fun' stuff...

I am thinking, i really love the defender, but have always had discos n like them too (our def was a 110 commercial n didnt do much off road stuff).

So..... although i am prob gonna have to wait til easter i am looking at whats available and cant make my mind up..

I know disco prob easy to modify??

But what is really best off road?

Im not talking accross antartica or desert but that will go most places with a few added extra's...

I am leaving it upto the vote!!

I am going to keep this going as long as i can then add em up, YOU CHOOSE!!

Discovery all the way.
Had Defenders in the past, junk compared to the discovery.
Discovery can do anything a Defender can but in absolute comfort.

And, ironically, there is many a Defender owner that puts the Disco T box in to make it better on road !.

disco but only due to affordability. (and i can weld)
looking for a 110 but the price puts me out of the market.

must admit I loved pikeys 90, had loads of character.. and first reaction to the disco was "is that the heap".... however.. bein in the heap and also the disco he has now..i have to say.. they are more comfortable, bit more leg and arm room, and warmer. :)

I think both are just as good /bad.. what you use them for is more important ! for me its the defender 110 van .. tons of room in the back for gas bottles/ welder /tools ect... workshop on wheels... oh and a mini digger hanging on the back...:D

... And you prefer to be warmer and more comfortable, with more room?

WHY??? When a Fender is everything that you will ever need! OK so maybe not what you want, but what you need! There is a difference!:your_wrong:

Defender all the way. Mine does 70mph with no rattles or shakes, they are brilliant off-road and then you will be in the waving squad lol.

Defender every time. Had a Disco which I thought was good until I got the defender.
Now can't get rid of the grin:D:D:D:D
