We,ve found, when working a Defender and Disco, ( down on the faaarm,,parp ! ), that the only problems with the Disco, ( TD5 ), was its extra weight causing more " damage to soft tracks and fields, and cosequently, on some muddy rutted inclines, losing traction, whereas the lighter 90 kept going.
The other thing thats not ideal on the Disco is the longer gearing when moving off towing heavy loads. We always pulled livestock with the shorter legged Defender.
The Disco has good spec levels and mine has 7 seats.
The D1 was prone to rust, and has given the Disco a bad name in this respect. But the D2,s body is showing little signs of rust after 10/11 years.
Its personal preference isnt it.
I think they,re awesome vehicles, ( Defender and Discovery ), and if you lay on yor back underneath one you wont see much difference.
I do belive that the TD5 versions of the Defender and Discovery, were the last of thier kind, and dont think that the more modern offerings will have the following of what had come before.
The Defender with the Ford engine in and the D3 and 4, have, I think, become a bit souless. Very refined, dont get me wrong, but wasnt that what the Rangerover was for.
( dont agree with the " Disco,s are plastic mum mobiles though " ).
