Hello; Have a 2.4 TDCi that has developed a problem with power at high speed. It always used to hit the max speed of 140KPH, even loaded up it go to top speed. Now its struggling to get from 120/125 KPH to 135KPH max. Even at that once I hit a slight incline on the road it lacks guts and drops back to 120KPH. I've had the fuel filter changed and checked for fault codes but nothing showing up. It accelerates fine up to 100/120KPH, and is as lively as normal (Defender wise) at lower speeds.

A few weeks ago it was only doing 120KPH at the very maximum but nothing else. Fuel filter change has made a bit of difference but still not right. Its a stock 2.4 TDCi with no engine or software mods.

Any one experienced similar?

intercooler hose lose / intercooler blocked with soot? former was my problem on a a 300 tdi, only spotted it as the soot blow-out buildt up, kept doing it again and again until I replaced the hose jubilee clips two good quality jubilee clips installed in opposing directions... since upgraded intercooler as well... its a slippery slope lol
 
Yep Air Filter changed, MAF checked. Turbo hoses pressure tested.
Everything seems perfect up to 110KPH but from then on it lacks guts. At low speed it accelerates well and is very responsive. After that it seems to run out of puff from 110KPH and any slight incline affects it.

Possibly unlrelated, but the works van did a very similar thing. Turned out to be a hole/crack in the intercooler pipe, pipe replaced and was right as rain again. The fault didn't appear unless the engine was up high in the rev range when accelerating, however it was affected at top speed even if the revs were low..

It did throw up faults in all sorts of ways when it happened..

Might be worth checking the pipework, just another one to tick off the list of things that are fine

Yeah I was thinking of upgrading the hoses to silicone from original ones anyway.
 
Possible that the throttle position sensor on the pedal is faulty or just dirty? (it is a fly by wire throttle)
