Hello,

I have possibility to buy cheap italian police Defender 1996 with engine 2.0 16V Mpi. Does anyone has more information about this type of Defender because is very rare (which gearbox, transfer case,....)
As I already heard this engine is too weak for Defender weight I intend to swap 300tdi engine. What I have to change in case of petrol to diesel conversion? Could you help me with addreses where to look for used (rebuild) 300tdi engines?

it would have to be very cheap too.
the engine is absolute rubbish. and then you will require a 300tdi engine just to swap for a rebuilt engine. all starts to look expensive.
might be better looking for a real proper 300tdi deepender in the first place?

i can get you names of some suppliers. you will need about 1500 quid and an old engine.

You will need engine and gearbox cos the MPi LT77 is very different to the TDi one. Just transferring a tdi to a MPi Disco and it's turned into a pig of a job !!!!

Why have you dug up an ancient, and largely un-related thread?

Post a request in the parts section. It doesn't have to be from an MPI, it just needs to be from another 90 (assuming you haven't retrofitted it into a 110) with the right ratio and splines.

Mine has a 2.0 mpi engine and it gets everywhere I want it to get to on and off road.
