My intention was to use it as my daily driver and something with a bit more comfort than my 90 but looks like I may have to sell as I don’t need another project.

Well, my local landrover guy checked over my newly acquired d2 and found the rear chassis not to be as good as I thought. It’s gone. Also the wheel arches have gone and been patched and hidden by a lot of sealant.

Other than that it’s ok. Bit oily but that’s it.

So sadly I dont think I will be spending the time and money repairing her which is a shame as was enjoying driving her.

Just posting to share the misery
Don't give up that easily mate!
even if you need a new rear 1/3 chassis it ain't actually all that expensive to get done. You might need to shop around a bit, my bloke, the one who patched the rear of mine offered to do it for £700 I think. Might have been less.
you will find some outrageous prices around though.
Did he sort your "not being able to get into first" problem?

Thanks. I had to pick up at end of day so he only had time to look around and change a seal on the transfer box , change transfer oil (rather put some in as there was a bolt missing which let out most of the oil.

I may do the atf filter and oil change to see if that sorts the problem.

Assuming this is your eBay ad:

If the chassis is as bad as you say it is, I really think it is something you should mention on your eBay advert. Appreciate “Caveat Emptor” and all that, but I think you should be a little more honest. I’m a newbie just looking for my first Disco, and would be gutted if a seller was dishonest about something so major.

Thanks for post. I should have said here that last weekend I had a proper look with a friend who knows more about things than me and thinks actually just needs some patches and will pass mot then.

Since listing I have actually decided to keep hold of her and let the advert run.

Yes it is all repairable, but check the chassis carefully, especially the rear Qtr. That is where costs will stack up.
Mine was the TD5 Manual, not the fastest but for size of vehicle more than adequate.

Hi. Since posting originally I have now replaced the rear quarter chassis and power steering pipes and a lot of the intercoolers. Passed mot yesterday so very pleased. Costs of the work has not been cheap but I have ended up with a very useable d2 I think.

The frame is easy to fix if you have a mig-welder. Just cut a square around any rust hole you find, and weld in a freash piece of 2,5 - 3mm sheet metal. And you get frame sections and out-riggers pretty cheap. Even 1/2 and 1/3 rear sections. Just remember to clean the frame and spray it inside and outside with antirust treatment like fluid-film, mercasol etc. D2`s are lovely vehicles, but be prepared to whip out your spanners once or twice a year.

Yes it’s been a good education so far.

Still going and can’t think of another car I have driven that compares to the D2.

Slight hesitation on the cold mornings this week but it gets there and has been incredibly cold.

Mix red diesel with old engine oil and spray underneath it and inside the chassis.
