ok, I've not worked on the RR for a while due to work and family commitments, however last night I was able to give the crank bolt another go

so... step 1 find and old rag and stuff into the cylinder

fit the head and head bolts,

using an impact socket (22mm) and a 3/4 breaker bar (39 inch length) on the crank bolt and the weight of myself and my dad (30+stone) eventually the bolt gave up and came out

You will be aware that you cannot just slap the oil pump back on. A special tool is used to centralise it and stop it from binding.

When you refit bottom chain with engine locked at TDC one bright link goes to mark on crank sprocket, other MUST be set on mark designated 6 on pump sprocket NOT mark designated 4. That is for four cylinder engines. :);)

ive just rebuilt mine and never realised you had to centralise oil pump i have a rubbing/ whirring noise could this be oil pump binding noise increases with revs
