Great...another forum full of ****e derogatory remarks.....

I won't bother asking anymore? I can't get drawn into arguments and troubled discussions, I have had enough of that ****e on forums, so will steer clear of this one too...Thanks, Beast of Bodmin for putting me off.....Bye E1

Thanks for the reply Thrasher, it is appreciated.

I think it is this attitude that he's getting ribbing about, he wants his answers immediately. I'm sure there are stickeys stating that advice and **** taking come in equal measures.
He's obviously been on other forums and got similar treatment, what is the common denominator? rooster uk.
The regulars know about the gaylander/trattor boys banter, so would newbies if they spent a bit of time looking around the forum instead of spitting out dummies at the slightest thing.

Perhaps you might go back a read the start of this thread. I work it out as three hours between posting the OP and responding. Three replies, one that was useful and to subject, the second saying "burn it" and the third complaining about the second but spoling it with the "shove it up yer arse comment". I think Rooster's comments are well placed and how you can think it is his fault is beyond me.

My views on the Freelander are evolving. My previous post on this thread shows how I feel. Is it perfect, far from it. Would I advise another to buy one, possibly but only if they are looking to improve the model and not looking for a car to drive, if its just for driving about then forget it and get a Slitty.

I spend time on here trying to be useful to other Freelander owners, to occationally request advice and to join in the banter. Pretty much like everyone else I would imagine. I get a lot of pleasure when I help advise someone with a problem and we get a quick result. Good job, well done, in my view.

I do feel the banterl should be restricted to the "Anything goes" section, where the rules are quite clear. Sensible conversation should be conducted in these areas, keeping to subject. For the "neanerthal contingent" as it was put, it puzzles me why if they think the Freelander is so bad that they are wasting their life in the Freelander section.

Personally I would welcome a bit more Moderation on here but, and with no critism to anyone in particular, there isn't any anymore. There used to be but I sometimes get the impression they have lost the will. I also note that there are many old regulars who aren't on anymore either. Maybe they went and got a life, maybe the incessant crap on here drove them away, its cross my mind to do something else on more than one occation. Obviously I'm still here after what appears to be some 20 months and 1,700 odd posts. The response to my very first thread in the introduction area was from BoB. Seems I got off quite lightly somehow. http://www.landyzone.co.uk/lz/f20/greetings-wiltshire-67062.html

That's my view, I'm sure some will agree, other not. Fine, thats the whole point of discussion, to find common ground.

LZ has far more moderation now than it had in the good old days - you sure you'd not feel more at home over on another forum where they delete threads for reasons only known to the mods and where you'll get suspended for spelling mistakes

there's always been relatives of Nob on here but generally the majority of the more senior peeps on here are so much more polite and tactful than way back when ...... you'd not have survived an afternoon back then

chill out

Is a relative newbie allowed to comment?

Well I'm going to anyway.....

Since buying my first gaylander 5 months ago, and being pointed in the direction of landy zone, I've found it informative, but you have to dismiss the crap.
I read a lot for information...hard work sometimes amongst the banter.

A newbie asking a serious question does deserve a serious answer. Suggesting they should realise it's all in fun is no excuse. Not everyone reads the forum before asking for help.
If they get a poor or sarcastic response, it's no wonder they throw the dummy out of the pram and look elsewhere.

As for me.....I'm sticking around.
I love my gaylander even though it's costing to get sorted.

Yes, it's boring reading the same "burn it" comment time and time again.
No.....I won't burn it.

Yes, but that is going to extremes. What I simply refer to is that pointless posts within the "Car Model" sections should be removed. The statement "Burn it", is pointless, unhelpful and childish. To be honest its borning and not even funny. So the poster doesn't like Freelanders, so thats up to him. I don't like Series landrovers and won't waste my time on them, but I don't trawl round the Series section suggesting that every one is torched.

What I believe should be done is that the "Car models" sections are lightly moderated to keep them on subject. If a Neebie comes on-board for help and the idiot brigage just sending him elsewhere then as a Landy site this place may as well be shutdown. They're running out of DOT4 addresses so lets free some up.

If you want to insult and abuse each other then go to the 'Anything goes' section, where such things are allowed and the warnings are clearly made.

well ....

there isnt another forum where you'll get a response as quick as LZ, some people have died whilst waiting a reply on other forums - sure you might get a bit of **** taking first but sooner rather than later you'll get a answer

type land rover forum, or many landy related questions into Google and 9 times outta 10 LZ with be top of the list

for ever 1 person that joins, gets the hump and leaves i'll bet there's 10 more that stay, search, read, learn and enjoy

compare the members numbers and post count with other places, kinda indicates LZ is doing something right

so - if it's not broke why fix it

See thats the problem some want more Moderisation some do not. I think the Mods are fairly relaxed on here. You can't however please everyone all of the time. Hopefully it will continue to be a relaxed style of moderisation which allows people freedom to have a laugh and gain information at the same time. There are too many forums that do not allow "humour". If you want a boring forum where people do not visit and answer your questions after a couple of weeks then feel free because I hope LZ never becomes one of them.

Your probably correct there.
It is difficult to get into a clique nowadays, especially one that is full of of overfuelled testosterone egotistical nobody's that think they know it all.
I asked a simple question, then got answers from members that don't own the vehicle I asked the question about.
I don't think I am as far up myself as you and some of the unhelpfull prats on here are. By the way, "it would be a shame if the engine blew up" would it? like it would be a shame if you found your 110 was a ringer and you lost everything (*Wishes Hard*) I hope your 110 costs you the earth to fix one day?

As for you being educated?

Rooster is a name, so is a capital letter. Its your name?Really?Mine is me screen name and there fore means nothing. Also practice wot ya preach.
It is also the start of a sentence, so is a capital letter. Correct I wont disaggree with ya there but seeing as this forum is very user friendly then thats not needed. However in my porofessional life im pretty much spot on, which is nice.
RichM, again a name, capital letters. see above^ also there a capital at the end of the word???
"it be a shame", word missing, it WOULD be a shame. It wouldnt, i was being sarcastic
"Not sure why yay interested but still..." yay, should be you're and there is no question mark. no in this case yaya should have read ya, but you still underrstood the context. Proves my second point quite nicely.

GoonArmy, befitting name for one like yourself! thats why i chose it
Educated, more like dragged up!!!!!! the best i could aford:DOxford.
well chicken boy, trying to be clever dont suit ya but keep trying.
Also bob only comented on this fred, its not like his spamming it up.If you want advice for free you take the rough with the smooth and make ya own judgements.

Back to the topic.I would advise to stay clear of freelanders, unless you want to buy mine for alot more money than its worth.

Your right, this forum is relaxed and long may it stay that way. However, there are many of us that are sick to the teeth of the anti freelander drone that goes on. There are rules on this forum and I'm sure that that making personal attack against others is not allowed. Some of the posts on this thread personally attack the OP when all he did was ask a simple question. Moderation should uphold the rules of the forum, nothing more and nothing less. There are no rules regarding spelling, and as an engineer (who traditionally can not spell) I'm glad about that.

The thoughts that regularly occur in my mind, and probably in the mind of others on here are "Fine, great, you don't like Freelanders, I'm happy for you. Now get out of the Freelander section unless you can make a proactive contribution that doesn't involve some sort of crass humour." Sean is very right, this is the best Landy site and others are not worth a mention. As far as his statistics of how many are scared away is concerned them I'm not convinced, but I ask this question. Why are there so many visitor and so few contributors? I think I know why.....

Is a relative newbie allowed to comment?
of course. It's one of the better things about this forum that newbies can post anything they like and won't get shouted down or slagged off for been newbies. For posting ****e or getting stroppy maybe but not for the act of posting.

And they usually get one.

serves themselves right then!!

Good it's peeps like you that should be on this forum. As I've said before forums are like pubs. Some are family orientated and some are full of old fogies or packed with Locals who don't take to strangers. & some are full of loonatics and you realise the second you step thru the door, that you've made a huge mistake and either try to blend in or get the fook out as quick as you can. some pubs you feel comfy in some you don't those you don't like you tend to avoid. same as a forum.

What about slightly charred?? :D

:hysterically_laughi
Thats a great way of putting it, :D

Darmain.
Without getting into the banality of BoBs posts ( which tend to be short, to the point, and easily ignored), surely you get fed up with the same posts over and over again......???
"Which freebie shall i buy"
"I have knocking sound from underneath"
"I have funny tyre wear"
"It is tight on full lock"
"I am loosing coolant - what is it"
"i have just bought a 1.8 with a new HG - so it will be ok - wont it?"

sometimes you have to reply in a frivolous manner or not at all, and then they complain " its been 3 hours and still no reply - wot a crap forum"

Yeap, your right MHM, the same old question do get me down. I'll answer some of them but leave others. One of us will pick them up, even if it is "Try a search".

However, if the individual has made an effort or its a bit of a different fault then I'll make an effort too.

At the end of the day I don't have to help anyone, but I choose to, I know you are the same.

Having said that, picture this. You think about buying a Freelander, you know nothing about them. So you happen across this place and you take a look. You search and find things like "Your VCU will fail and take out your IRD and that'll cost you loads". What the hell are they on about? Well they obviously know more than I do so I'll ask them my questions.... Same old questions, but its not the Neebie that's at fault, its the design of the Freelander that fails in the same way over and over again.

I don't think the three hours has got anything to do with the complaint. He checks back in hope of a reply and found crap. He doesn't know how this forum works and gets a bit shirty. I can't blame him really and it is this 'service' that we provide that we can improve on.

Look at it this way, if we keep more members we have -

A bigger knowledge base.
More people to answer the stupid questions.
Better chance of local groups forming.
More laning days.
Better LZ international rescue responses.
Better jokes.
More talent. ;)
