I have a 1991 defender 90 200

I've been looking at a few parts online and quiet a few state that they are for post 1992 vehicles also read as if that's when the 200 started? I already have a incorrect steering wheel on the way, want to avoid anymore mishaps.
What am I missing is mine simply a 1991 90 200tdi and they changed some things in 1992 or could it have been something different originally?

Are you sure it isn't a Ninety that has been re-engined with a 200Tdi. You should be able to google up original engine number that goes with your vehicle, and check it matches the engine in your vehicle.
Are you dating the vehicle from manufacture, registration, or number plate?

Dating from reg V5 January 1991 haven't checked the engine number, do you know when the 200 came out?

Don't worry yourself too much. I also have a 1991 90" 200tdi, not re-engined.

The 200tdi engine was released initially in the Disco in '89 before eventually making its way to the Defender (Utility Land Rover) in late '90 - so 1991 is the very early years of the 200tdi, and one of the most solid engines Land Rover ever produced.

OK, so that is a vehicle that was built at the latest some time in 1990.
I don't, I am not a landrover historian, and the subject is quite complicated, think there was some overlap of production. It says in a book I have that Defender(with 200 Tdi) sales started in model year 1990, which I assume means September 90. No idea when production started.

I think you need to write down VIN, chassis and engine numbers and do some searching.

Just googled looks like the 200 came into defenders late 1990 so could be correct I will get the chassis and engine number from it later and have a Google.
Was there many changes in 1992? Trying to work out why a few parts stae that year? Part in particular is the rear diff seal most state from 1992

If you want some reassurance, take a picture under the hood and post them in here as well, can compare it against mine.

diff seals change due to diff flange mudshield , a 200 tdi should normally use frc8220 and 300 tdi ftc5258

As far as I know there were no Defenders until introduction of 200Tdi in 1990. Only Ninety/One-Ten.

Land rover seem to have a different view. Defender ran from 1987 to 2006. Then new one from 2007 to present. According to Microcat.

If it helps put your mind at rest. Mine is a original 1990, 200 tdi 110; Mine was actually a pre- production one which was given to the French military to evaluate so its a LHD. It was registered in the UK as a 1990 model before being re registered in France

Any link to that?
As I say, I am not a historian, just go on what I see. My 1989 vehcle is clearly a Ninety, it says so on the badge, and it has a 19j. Marts 1991 vehicle is clearly badged Defender, and has a 200Tdi.

They are just using the Defender name to save having a separate parts section for 90/110.
If you look, you will see that the "Defender" section lists parts for 19j and 2.5na as well.
Also interesting that 90/110 were made from about 83, I think, not sure what the 83-87 owners are supposed to do.

They are basically all the same vehicle. Except for the badges.
