its not a matter of whether you think air or coils have better attributes its just practicality for many
*sigh*

It's nothing to do with what has the better attributes. I'd much rather open the throttle on twisty road in a coil sprung boxster than an air sprung 4x4.

The point which you are choosing not to accept is that the P38 was designed on air. it's handling both on and off road and it's features and functions are based around a self levelling air sprung suspension.

It's not about what is better. Air or coil but around what the P38 was designed as and the losses encountered from conversion.

I don't think others e

Thanks mate I'll have to get soft were then FFS lol were is the best place to get that mate
I can supply the EAS software and cable, it comes with a CD containing my airbag replacement guide and a copy of RAVE the workshop manual. You need a Windows laptop preferably not running Vista and if your laptop does not have a serial port, you will need a USB to serial converter. If you are not familiar with computers, you might struggle.

I have always been surprised at how well the P38 can be hustled through the twisties, leaves the other 4 x 4's I've owned for dead.

the p38 is a basic chassis and beam axles its not a special vehicle, apart from ride height the air system is hardly sophisticated, coil kits have helped a good few keep a useful cheap large 4x4 on the road which is generally their 2nd or 3rd car considering even the newest is 14s years old

I have a coil sprung P38 it was like that when I bought it and for what I paid I feel they are a bargain, as mentioned above.
Many people me included just want it to drive as a second vehicle just been out today in mine and I feel it drives very well from memory better than my 300TDi Disco.
I just couldn't afford a big garage bill and I feel that's why many of them end up on springs

14? I thought the last were made in 2002?

I would never swap EAS for coils, but if I had to it would be on stiffish springs at motorway height.

Then a large 4x4 with air suspension is not the right choice. if someone wants a cheap 4x4 then maybe a Suzuki Vitara would be a better choice.
Having had both they are totally different, the Vitara with basic off road tyres is a very capable off roader as its so compact and light, had mine 5 years and couldnt brake it. The P38 is a totally different vehicle much more refined with the ability to do some off road work and over double the towing capacity.
Problem is the P38 is possibly cheaper than a Vitara?
My Vitara was fun off-roader, road legal that I just used as an emergency car and driving to work in the snow etc.
The P38 is used for best as its so much more refined.

I would have liked a Vitara, just too expensive, so ended up with the P38 as a daily driver. It has actually proved to be reasonably reliable and very cheap to fix so I now have 2 of them:)

Best not to mention a passion for Suzuki vehicles on here!

And that's fine. it's a justifiable explanation.

I do agree with you in some ways, it was designed to have Air but I doubt it was designed to last 20 odd years, I don't cane mine as its a 4x4 not a sports car

Probably right !

Cracking work though. it's outlasted many cars of the vintage.

In that sense it's quite environmentally friendly as so many are still going and parts being reused

It cost me around £150 to lift my P38 about 2inches on coils. They were 2nd hand of which I think the front set are older as they seem lower. I don't believe a garage around me would have repaired my EAS for that. It was 20 years old and completely shot
