Hi guys checked battery voltage and that was 12.64 volts engine off fully charged left over night ... Started up all lights came straight on so with high beam on, hazards flashing and horn blasting I had 14.64 volts with those on as I can stop them coming on at the moment.... Looks like I'm.taking the seat out.....

A pound to a pinch of ****e that the valeting has done the BECM in as the others have said. NEVER steam clean the interior of any modern car, it will always end in tears.

Major issues now and im totally sickend off big time

Anyone want to buy it ???

ok ive cocked up big time now gutted ....

After checking the voltage and charging i took the fuse box out and stripped it down to investigate inside took some pictures so will upload soon, all seems pritty clean and corrosion free from in there to me, so i reassembled it and tried again, STILL IDENTICLE FAULTS, then i went to try and disconnect the alarm siren which i did and was still the same, BUT when i went to reconnect the siren i moved the fuse box a touch, as it wasnt bolted down and the thick brown/green wire touched the body and make a small spark as the battery was connected (school boy error) and after ive plugged everything back in its gone from bad to worse....

Well i think its time to pass this onto someone who knows what the are doing to be honest ive got the seat un bolted and can see the Becm but what am i or what can i do with it...

To add the driver carpet is wet on the underside and the taste of the water is of an anti freeze type taste so but im not convinced its got into the Becm though....

With the battery off, remove all the connectors form the BECM, unbolt the unit, take it into the house, take the lid off and look for signs of dampness on the circuit boards and in the connectors. Wash the whole lot off gently with electrical circuit board cleaner (CPC or Maplin), try not to touch any of the components, and let it dry. Wash out all the connectors with contact cleaner (do not use wd40) put it back in and see what happens. If it's still faulty, PM rick the pick and arrange to send you BECM to him to fix.
Better than scrapping the car:)

Some at least of the wet is from the heater "O" rings, a common fault, cheap to fix but time consuming.

Hi quick update before i top myself lol removed Becm module and its bone dry but look at the pictures

what could i have done by arcing the live to earth by my own fault or might that of happend cos i disconnected the alarm or something

Also since the arcing issue happend i have no display at all on the Green lcd display on the dash its just blank...

Looking at the photos, there is quit ea lot of corrosion in the BeCM, this should be cleaned as per Datateks instruction.

As I mentioned way back, I suspected the BeCM was playing up due to moisture or condensation......you mention coolant in the footwell, this is from bust O rings in the heater matrix leaking.....whilst it doesn't leak directly into the BeCM, when the car interior warms up this evaporates into the air and then condensates in the BeCM's cold metal case.

Steaming cleaning didn't help me thinks.

Go by Datateks instructions and clean the corrsion carefully with a good electrical cleaner, and see what happens.

The rest ofthe faults can be sorted out with a little time, but first thing to do is to get the BeCM in a good state.

Not starting could be down to needing the EKA code to be input using the ignition key in the door lock......

The short probably knocked out a fuse or two....but we can deal with that later, get the BeCM straight first.

Dry inside the BeCM but a lot of corrosion on those pins. Cleaning should help and solve providing chips haven't been damaged by shorting the legs in which case you will need to send off.

Ref the short - check all your fuses and replace any that are blown, under seat and in fuse box. Check the relays to in turn to make sure they're operational.
Bulbs in headlight and in he dash may have blown due to the short. Check and see.

With a bit of patience and time (and use of the forum) you can get this back on the road, all is not lost. The starting may be as simple as loss of sync between the engine ECU an BeCM, especially if you've been playing with connections and pulling wires out.

Bad news is you will need syncmate or similar diagnostic tool to sync back up, good news is there may be some one near you with one who can lend a hand and this should get it running again. One problem at a time and she'll me up and running.

Hi Guys i would like to thank you all for the input on this issue, i would of never got as far as i did without your help, and probably got a lot more frustrated,, yeah i made a school boy error and shorted something out, but hey ho we all live and learn, the main thing though is this cos of you guys i narrowed the fault down and did the investigation work, Doug got in touch and called me on a sunday of all days and i owe him for that for a start, he has exlained what and how he can hopefully sort this and when its sorted i will report back on here, He is also coming 140 miles each way to help and that in itself says alot as its not running and i cant take it to him,,,

I could probably clean up the boards but fear of making the issue worse im going to leave it to him, he knows what he is doing and basically its best left to him i feel...

I know its just a car and all that but dont they get you wound up at times but hopefully their is a light at the end of the tunnel and weds will show whats what...

Keep ypu all informed as it progresses chaps ok...

thanks again Rob
