The mad hat man - alot of people we know locally have sugested this also that the vehicle was altered (modified or whatever you call it) to avoid paying tax

I dont believe your motor was altered or modified - i reckon its just had the Series ID was added to a 90, to make it tax exempt. I think the distance between front and rear wheel centres will be 90, not 88 - again an easy check that you can do yourself.

Beast O bodmin - I appreciate that you are trying to help, but i really dont want a stranger coming to look at the vehicle, my other half works alot and I have my 2 little boys to think about, we would prefer to take it to someone ourselves. ie Dvla. Trust me wont sell this vehicle until we get to the bottom of this.

we are obviously nervous about this whole thing as some people have texted us and obtained our address by deciet, and we have also had people texting pretending to be police officers, so im not very trusting at the mo.

Another option for you would be to speak to your local police force and ask if someone from the stolen vehicle squad could come and look at it for you. They should be able to date the vehicle and also check the number on the chassis leg is present and correct and hasn't been re-stamped or altered. Unfortunately there are people on ebay that sell the chassis plate to go on the servo, along with a matching V5 document. This makes changing the id of a vehicle easy to do and could explain why your vehicle doesn't look like it should do.

also on chassis leg by hand brake drum- year stamp (eg my 110)

Beast O B, my mate's wagon has leafs on but the DVLA said that the vehicle had insufficient parts to still be considered of tax exempt vintage

unfortunately the points deducted for incorrect chassis leaves very little room for any other changes.

agreed.

in order for the said vehicle too be tax exemp it must have the original chassis spec or replacement to original spec ie 109 sw has leaf springs and 110 defender has coils.

nothappy go measure the distance betwenn the centre of the two wheels u have on the vehicle outside.in inches is best..front to back down 1 side. ..go on hurry up now...:D

Interior pics suggest it's a 90, unless someone went to town on the update!

Interesting that the "Defender" badge on the bonnet has been hidden / removed...

well spotted.

what matters here is the wheel base measurement to match to the 88" base stated on the numberplate

All you have done "not happy" is hpi checked the registration plate fitted to the landy, think of them as 2 comletley different things. the truck is definetly a landrover 90. no matter what anybody says, and i dont think somebody would go through the trouble and risks involved of changing the i.d just to avoid road tax surely. the i.d is off a series landrover like a 2a. no chance on this earth is any part of that landy a series. Personally i think it is a stolen landrover. There that easy to get hold of, some people get away with putting i.d's on ebay. You really need to get somebody round to look for numbers on the chassis not removable vin tags on the servo that are just rivited on. if you cant see the number on the drivers front chassis leg just before the bumper, then im afraid its got a disturbing past

May I just make the point here that stating what we think on the forum is one thing - sending texts is summat else :(.

Ok so I lied ^^^^ Maybe we should show him how to use the quote button.:D:D:D
