It's a Defender which had rust damage to the rear half of the chassis so the rear half was replaced then rust damage was found on the front half and so that was replaced, simple! And if they look carefully they'll even see the join proving it. Problem solved :)

i think this will be the story untill she gets a galv unit under her although i dont see too much of an issue

as i have now had my defender 200tdi engine delivered i have an original 200tdi defender (apart from chassis) for £500 so far as i paid £100 for the engine ! :)

so definatly going to keep and when i can afford it a factory tdi galv chassis coming my way , total cost of a standard 200tdi on a galved chassis would then be around the £2000-£2500 mark :)

thanks for moving the thread admin/mods :)
the identity of this vehicle has not been decided yet as ideally i want the defender reg as its just been rechassied to defender spec with original gearbox, body and possibly engine(tdi model anyway) , may be able to keep the reg just on the number of points left , can also push it in my favour by using the original axle casings and using the discos diffs and shafts :)

cornish rattler what chassis are you using ? stnadard steel or galved? if my vehicle turns out tidy i have no intension of selling it so when i can afford it may fit a standard spec galv chassis in a few years :)

Std spec marsland galv :)

Std spec marsland galv :)

thats the way im going too , basic defender chassis but galved

anyways bit more productive day today , had a set of mazda RX8 seats delivered from a local lad i buy bits off , got them for £30, although not bolted in yet they seem perfect for the job and are comfortable

then we have the bad news ! i fitted my £100 bargain defender engine today , got it in the bay and some of the pipes, wiring on , as this engine was from an accident vehicle with a damaged timing case i decided against trying to start it and turned it by hand first to find it resisted turning  , quick peek through the oil cap showed no rockers moving

so after a small bit of stripping i have 6 badly bent pushrods, and a timing belt with a chewed edge , when i get a new timing case i will pop in my spare set of pushrods and see if she goes or not

i think what i will do is use a discovery 200tdi timing case as its cheaper and has the mounts for aircon/second alternator

yeah new belt and tensioner as i think the old one was stretched and chewed when the timing case got bent , will have a new waterpump too just to make sure everything is spot on as i dont like only doing half a job ! need to find a disco timing case now

they are the moest bent ones i have seen from a tdi engine , had to wiggle the cam pulley and bend the tods back the other way to get them out , high speed impact for sure , have seen the chassis that this engine was removed from and it was bent in the middle , also need a new steel engine mount as thats bent

Best of luck with that. Hope there isn't other damage in the engine as well.

it should be ok , havent seen many of theese which have had further damage , getting a timing case seems to be the difficult bit !

Come back and tell us more when you are out of prison! ;) :D

cheers for that , makes it sound terrible lol
just to clarify it was a dangerous driving charge , there are circomestances surrounding it which made it better and worse ,

no prision in the end instead i had 18 month driving ban,12 month suspended prision sentance,£400 fine and 30 day community order
it helped that the police lost the dashcam video too !

Think you will be ok with the timing case / cover mine had the power steer pump torn off the timing case which i needed to remove the engine to fix

i will defo need a new timing case as its been hit on the fuel pump side and has bent the cover and the fuel pump backwards , that caused the belt to get chucked off and bent the pushrods , how did yours sustain damage?

At this point I can't tell whether you're kidding or not, that's the trouble with this forum :p

On the plus side, 18 months should be just long enough to get this Defender back on the road!
Wondered about that myself. Let us hope he is joking! :)

If it is true, I cant imagine he would be idiot enough to post it on the net! o_O

Why would he make it up? in my mind It's not really the kind of thing you lie about.
As for posting it on here, I don't really see why not, it's just being honest with the people you're associating with, maybe too much information but I'm guilty of the same (under different circumstances) It's just sometimes it's good to just put it out their when you have no one else to talk to, even if no one is reading or remotely bothered.
Pretty sure it's been said before how I've been to prison, but I wouldn't just come out with it out the blue. Sometimes questions are asked and why lie.

Because of the impact it might have on future employment prospects etc.! :)
Its nothing to do with lying, it is to do with discretion. You might tell your social circle some personal things, you wouldn't necessarily walk into the town square with a megaphone and tell every random passer by, would you?

Fair point, I don't do thinking things through and just say what I'm thinking at the time, be it good or bad.
I can see what you're saying though :) As I've heard of employers doing so.
But for me I've lost all care in the world so just say it anyway, I doubt anyone likely to give me a job is going to be reputable enough to check what I'm doing on the internet.
