Morning all

I need to change the thermostat on my TD5 II and have read that I need to remove the viscous fan which requires a special tool.

Will this one from Halfords fit? Or is there another way of changing the thermostat without removing the fan? I'm hoping I don't need to shell out on an expensive tool I'm only likely to use once!

Any other tips would be appreciated.

Cheers

Yea, that'll fit.
I got the same one - was only £5.99 though!
Fookin Halfrauds is robbin bastids.

remember on the TD5 the fan is a normal RIGHT hand thread, it will say left hand thread on the spanner...

300's and 200's the fan is a LEFT hand thread

Well the fan came off quite easily - thanks for the tip about the right handed thread.

Undoing the coolant drain plug was easy enough, avoiding a warm coolant flavoured shower down my right arm wasn't.

Getting the blimmin' spring loaded pipe clips off was a nightmare, three grazed knuckles, two dremmel blades and lots of cursing they are all off. I'd bought some replacement jubilee clips but not enough of the larger ones so I'll have to finish the job tomorrow.
