Dear All,

I have been trying to sell the P38 2.5DSE, its a really nice car metalic blue leather etc..and has been exceptionally looked after ie full LR service history and repair. To many new parts to mention ie all new brakes, EAS compressor, springs etc...

Only thing is its high mileage 119500, but engine and gearbox is sweet as a nut and pulls considerably well for a diesel.

I tried it at 8k which yes I know is a bit heavy. I have dropped it down to 6,995 the only offers I have had is 4k px or 4k from a dealer.

I dont want to give it away. What is its true value? Is it just the wrong time to be selling this car should I wait. Also all the calls I have received are from the sign in its window rather than Auto Trader and webisites etc..

Welcome you thoughts, even if it is just a reality check on its value.

P38's are on the floor at the moment pricewise. If you've been offered 4k px, then you're not really going to get much more than 5k private. Try £5495 ONO and see what happens. A mate just bought a 4.6 HSE with 75k miles on the clock, fsh, mint condition, same colour as yours for £3.5k
 
I bought a 2000 "X" reg Oslo Blue 4.0 HSE in perfect condition with 98k miles on a few months ago for £4k. Sold it for £6k, but I was lucky.

Thanks to "Red Ken" Range Rover prices have fallen significantly in the last month or so. People think they cost a fortune to tax no matter how old they are.

I have a feeling that the P38 has just entered the depreciation freefall zone. I reckon the book price will drop by at least £500 this month in Glass's Guide, probably £500 next month and then it'll level out a bit (to around £150-200 a month), but they're going to be fetching pennies soon.

It wasn't that long ago this happened to the Classic. If you'd bought a "G" plate Vogue SE in '96 for £15k, in '99 it was worth £5k, in 2003 it was worth £3k.
 
Thanks, I am getting alot of calls but its the price thats putting them off so people want them. Any suggestions on the best place to sell them.

Bit like rolex's I'd love to buy a couple but the price keeps putting me off.

It's only worth what someone will pay for it. That's the problem. Advertise it for a fiver and you'll have hundreds of people at your door in minutes. Put it up for £10k and you'll get to talk to all the rip off merchants promising "guaranteed buyers if you pay us £300".

I find the Auto Trader to be as good as anywhere else. Ebay has descended into joke territory.

There are P38s in the Pistonheads Classifieds for £2500.

Take the £4k, or hope they come up in value. Sorry :-(
 
Mine sold to a chap who I know, he knew what I paid for it and offered £6k on the spot. I suspect I was lucky, or he had a buyer lined up for it. I was going to put it in the paper for £4750..
 
I bought a Red 2.5 DSE year 2000 for 7.25k with 78k on the clock last month from a dealer. I guess that I would expect to pay 2K lass re the mileage and not comming from a dealer. Good luck anyway.

Just to give you an example of prices locally to me in Autotrader...

1998 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER 4.0 SE 4dr Auto Estate

Automatic, 92,800 miles, S Reg, only 2 owners from new, full, regular service history, recent full service, metallic azure blue, cream leather seats, cruise control, walnut trim, alloy wheels, electric mirrors, heated seats, tinted windows, CD player, taxed until July 08, MOT till Sept 08. Well looked after car Private sale, open to offers.

Price £3,000 AND he is open to offers!

Your offer of £4000 is sounding better and better to me.....and that was a trade in price too!

Just to add to that, the market for P38's has dropped through the floor.....this is also down to desirability or rather lack of. What people want is the new Range Rover Sport or the full L322 version.

By comparison, the P38 is now looking its age...

Not to mention people see all 4x4's as gas guzzlers and are heavily taxed and unless you have an LPG conversion you need a large wallet.
 
To make matter worse, this afternoon I bought a P38.

M reg, 180k miles, 4.6 HSE, facelift lights, 18" hurricane alloys, LR "A" bar with spots, FLRSH, no apparant mechanical issues other than the brake pad / abs / traction lights flash when you first touch the brake pedal (but the ABS and TC work fine), ageless reg (not an Irish one, a proper three number, three letter job), Black, Harmon Kardon stereo, roof bars, recent tyres and exhaust. Long MOT but no tax.

Not gassed, and bought through trade.



£1200.
 
hi what year is the car I am just about to purchase 1999 Treg 2.5 dse all the bits for £3700 2 owners 98K and this guy is a dealer.Ebay is a joke too many people bidding on thier own cars to try and raise the price.
 
I think at these prices I will keep it and modify it and do a bit of off roading till it falls apart, that would be more fun than giving it away.

What I plan to do is convert it to LPG and then put a L322 conversion kit on it from Range Over

With P38's going so cheap, I can see Range Over getting some business when their 2007 edition body kit finally arrives.
